Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 1

Section viii: the difference between pair's revenues in the 2014 fiscal year (august 1, 2014-july 31,2015) and the 2015 fiscal year (august 1, 2015-july 31, 2016) is a result of the awarding of several multi-year grants in 2014, which are credited as revenue in 2014 although they were awarded for 2015 and 2016. Revenues for the 2016 fiscal year reported in this 990 filing reflect a more typical year.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

A draft of the form 990 is provided to all board members for review and comment. All comments and questions are addressed prior to submission. The board votes to accept 990 for submission.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

The chairperson of the governing board oversees any potential conflict of interest and would bring it to the attention of the executive board.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The executive director's compensation is set based on a review of the salaries of comparable positions in houston. The board reviews the excutive director's salary each year based on cost of living, a performance review and the annual budget. All board members participate in this review and vote on setting compensation.
