“A draft of the 990 is provided to the ceo, the director of finance, and the board treasurer who review the form, schedules, and related attachments. Any comments or questions are addressed with the preparer. Once the ceo and treasurer approve the 990, the 990 is provided to the board of directors for approval. Once approved, the ceo signs form 8879-te authorizing the preparer to e-file the return.”
“All staff, directors, and officers complete a conflict or duality of interest disclosure form annually. All disclosures were completed in june 2024, and the forms were reviewed by the board president and ceo. If applicable, the board president and ceo work to resolve any actual or potential conflicts. In the absence of resolution, the board president would refer the matter to the executive committee and depending on the outcome, the full board of directors. There were no unresolved conflicts of interest identified in 2024 or 2025 to date.”
“The financial committee establishes compensation of the chief executive officer (ceo). To establish executive compensation, the financial committee makes a recommendation based on researching ceo compensation for national organizations engaging in similar work. They also consider other factors, such as experience and performance. Guidestar and charity navigator are well-known research organizations that survey non-profit organizations across the country and create standards for the industry. Both organizations are critical resources for the financial committee's research. When a change in compensation is under consideration, evawi's board president makes a recommendation to the financial committee. The financial committee votes to approve or reject the recommendation. The financial committee's decision is documented and signed by the treasurer and the board president and filed with the charity navigator reports as well as any other resources and documents used to support the decision. Once the financial committee agrees on compensation, the president will present the decision to the board of directors. The minutes for the board meeting shall be filed in accordance with evawi's bylaws, documenting any deliberations and the basis for a decision.”
“The ceo is the only paid officer. See 990, part vi, line 15a.”
“In 2020 and early 2021, the ceo and management team conducted a comprehensive review of the financial policy manual. The policy and procedure manual and the financial policy manual remain under ongoing review to ensure they stay current and effective. In 2024, evawi updated two personnel policies and three financial policies, all of which were approved by the board of directors. The financial policy manual undergoes continuous evaluation by the ceo and management staff, while the executive committee conducts a formal review of the policy and procedure manual every three years. In 2022, the executive committee reviewed all 89 personnel policies to confirm compliance and ensure alignment with evawi's standards. To promote transparency, many of evawi's policies are publicly available on the evawi website (e.g., code of business conduct and ethics, discrimination and harassment, whistleblower reporting and response, board of directors and staff conflict or duality of interest).”

“In 2024, with grant funding from the us department of justice, office on violence against women, evawi worked with partners to promote and expand access to the sexual assault medical forensic examination: a virtual practicum. This interactive training program guides professionals through each step of the medical forensic examination process, from evidence collection and documentation to courtroom testimony. Designed for healthcare professionals, law enforcement, prosecutors, forensic scientists, emergency medical personnel, victim advocates, and other professionals, the virtual practicum serves as a critical tool for strengthening responses to sexual assault. In 2024, 847 new users engaged with the program, logging an impressive 16,516.5 hours of training. This translates to improved evidence collection, enhanced patient care, and ultimately, greater access to justice for survivors. In 2024, evawi launched a new professional membership program, providing professionals with exclusive access to training, resources, and a dynamic network of peers. The program debuted at evawis annual conference and saw rapid growth, reaching 271 members by year-end. Members benefit from exclusive training content, opportunities to exchange ideas and solutions with colleagues, and a professional network for day-to-day challenges.”
