Activity 2

The Education Program provides programming assistance, materials and advice to enable educators to use the river as a natural classroom, teaches the general public about the river and trains volunteers to monitor the river's conditions and compile data. Guided by a Bronx River Education Team composed of teachers, scientists and community educators, the Education program advances its mission through three specific initiatives: Bronx River Classroom, the Bronx River Stewards Volunteer Monitoring Program and its public education and in addition manages the Alliance's recreation program.

Activity 3

The Greenway Program develops the Bronx River Greenway, integrating new open spaces and existing parks into a continuous ribbon of parkland connected by 10 miles of multi-use paths. The program tracks and facilitates projects, communicates with relevant agencies to ensure that projects stay on track, engages community involvement and ensures that greenway development remains in line with ecological principles. It conducts planning with the active participation of the community, promotes the greenway through a variety of events that build a base of active usership, fosters community stewardship and develops long-term funding strategies to sustain the greenway.
