“During the tax year ended september 30, 2016, a former employee of ncpa embezzled funds of ncpa including cash, investments, and unauthorized credit card charges. The total amount of these losses for the year ended september 30, 2016 was approximately $788,000. Due to inherent uncertainty in the case, ncpa cannot accurately predict the outcome or recovery of certain losses. During the year ended september 30, 2016, approximately $213,000 was recorded as embezzlement expense. The remainder of total losses incurred during the year ended september 30, 2016, of approximately $575,000, has been recorded as a recovery of misappropriated assets receivable, as this amount relates to liquid assets that were remitted back to ncpa in february 2017 and converted to cash. Approximately $100,000 of goods, consisting of jewelry and fashion items purchased with the embezzled funds, have been recovered by ncpa. Ncpa expects some diminution of value upon the liquidation of these items.”
