In absence of explicit donor stipulations, the ASU requires the use of the placed-in-service approach for reporting expirations of restrictions on gifts of cash or other assets to be used to acquire or construct a long-lived asset and the reclassification of any amounts from net assets with donor restrictions to net assets without donor restriction for such long-lived assets that have been placed in service as of the beginning of the period of adoption (thus eliminating the current option to release the donor-imposed restriction over the estimated useful life of the acquired asset). The DSA applied the changes retrospectively. The net reclassification of gifts for long-lived assets to implement ASU 2016-14 was $3,609,346 (reclassification from net assets with donor restrictions to net assets without donor restrictions). The classical Series, Pops Series and numerous events highlight diversity in the city, along with youth concerts that number over 165 performances each year. As a community partner, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra sponsors the following programs: Community Connections (free tickets distributed by social service agencies), Young Strings (provides free instruments and music lessons to students), Young Musicians (provides free instruments and lessons for students at Dallas ISD sites across Southern Dallas), Symphony YES (provides musician ensembles to perform in area schools), DSO Kids (educational website for children and teachers), and My DSO Concert (free concert for adults and children with autism and developmental disabilities).
