“Endowment funds are utilized to support the mission of trinity university. Funds are used for facility maintenance of the preston gaines northrup hall on campus, in addition to salary supplements for certain faculty of the university.”

“The University is exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(a) as an organization described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (the Code). This exemption does not apply to unrelated business income, as defined by Section 512(a)(1) of the Code, which is subject to federal income tax. The University had no material tax liability resulting from such unrelated business income in 2022 or 2021. The University is subject to an excise tax of 1.4% on the University's net investment income. The excise tax is recognized as a reduction of the University's investment returns, but has no material impact on the consolidated financial statements. U.S. GAAP requires management to evaluate uncertain tax positions taken by the University. The financial statement effects of a tax position are recognized when the position is more likely than not, based on the technical merits, to be sustained upon examination by the Internal Revenue Service or the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Management has analyzed the tax positions taken by the University and has concluded that as of May 31, 2022, there are no uncertain positions taken or expected to be taken. The University has recognized no interest or penalties related to uncertain tax positions. The University is subject to routine audits by taxing jurisdictions and was under audit for the tax period ended May 31, 2018. Subsequent to year-end, the audit was closed and resolved in the University's favor. Management believes the University is no longer subject to income tax examinations for years prior to May 31, 2019.”
