Mission

To advance the care of hand and upper extremity disorders by supporting research, education and outreach through the efficient collection of donations and administration of grants.

To provide educational services and programs concerning hand surgery; to stimulate research and investigation of and teaching on the methods for preventing, correcting and treating diseases of the hand arising from congenital, developmental, nutritional, traumatic, or other causes; to perform and do any and all such other acts as are necessary, convenient, or proper to the attainment of these objectives.

IN 2024, OVER 500 INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS MADE DONATIONS TO AFSH. AFSH RECEIVED A SIGNED PLEDGE AGREEMENT FOR A 5-YEAR, $500,000 PLEDGE FROM AN ASSH MEMBER IN DECEMBER. THIRTEEN INDIVIDUALS WHO SERVED ON THE AFSH BOARD OF TRUSTEES IN 2024 WORKED FOR TAX-EXEMPT ORGANIZATIONS. AFSH SUPPORTS DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO HAND SURGEONS AT ZERO COST TO ANYONE SEEKING TREATMENT. AFSH ALSO PROVIDES AN ANNUAL GRANT TO FUND A PUBLICLY ACCESSIBLE WEBSITE THAT AIDS THE GENERAL PUBLIC IN FINDING A HAND SURGEON. AFSH PROVIDES OVER 170 GRANTS ANNUALLY TO RESIDENTS AND FELLOWS TO ALLOW THEM TO ATTEND THE ASSH ANNUAL MEETING. THIS ALLOWS THESE INDIVIDUALS TO HAVE ACCESS TO THE VAST ARRAY OF EDUCATIONAL CONTENT THAT WILL ENABLE THEM TO HONE THEIR SKILLS AND IN TURN PROVIDE QUALITY HEALTHCARE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC.
