Teen justice initiative - the teen justice initiative advocates for survivors of teen dating violence by: collaborating with groups working on domestic violence and sexual assault; increasing awareness of legal rights among young people, parents, schools, and the community; providing free and confidential legal advice and referrals to victims of teen dating violence in texas; and providing legal representation to minors seeking protective orders in central texas. Justice initiative - the justice initiative is a program which serves to educate professionals and advocate for the protective order process throughout the state, as well as using appeals to increase access to courts for domestic violence survivors. IN THE HOURS IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING A FAMILY VIOLENCE ARREST, VICTIMS ARE CONTACTED DIRECTLY TO DISCUSS LEGAL OPTIONS, OFFER SAFETY PLANNING, AND CONDUCT LETHALITY ASSESSMENTS. IN PARTICULAR, THE ATTORNEY WILL GO OVER THE VICTIM'S RIGHT TO REQUEST AN EMERGENCY PROTECTIVE ORDER (A 30-91 DAY "STAY-AWAY" ORDER) AGAINST THE OFFENDER. THE ATTORNEYS ALSO PROVIDE FOLLOW-UP SERVICES PERTAINING TO THE ORDER AND ANY MODIFICATION QUESTIONS THE VICTIM MAY HAVE. DIRECT ASSISTANCE FOR THIS PROGRAM IS ONLY AVAILABLE IN TRAVIS COUNTY; HOWEVER TRAINING IS AVAILABLE STATEWIDE ON BEST PRACTICES REGARDING EMERGENCY PROTECTIVE ORDERS FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT, VICTIM LIAISONS, AND THE JUDICIARY. |

TRAINING - TEXAS ADVOCACY PROJECT PROVIDES FREE TRAINING, TECHNICAL SUPPORT AND CONSULTING FOR JUDGES, PROSECUTORS, LAW ENFORCEMENT, FAMILY AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE VICTIM ADVOCATES AND ALLIED PROFESSIONALS IN COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT TEXAS. OUR TEAM COORDINATES PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION SEMINARS AND IDENTIFIES NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES. WE ALSO PROVIDE A SPANISH-TRACK FOR PROMOTORAS (COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKERS) IN SOUTH TEXAS FOCUSING ON THE DYNAMICS OF FAMILY VIOLENCE AND LEGAL OPTIONS FOR IMMIGRANT VICTIMS OF FAMILY VIOLENCE. TEEN JUSTICE INITIATIVE - THE TEEN JUSTICE INITIATIVE ADVOCATES FOR SURVIVORS OF TEEN DATING VIOLENCE BY: COLLABORATING WITH GROUPS WORKING ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT; INCREASING AWARENESS OF LEGAL RIGHTS AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE, PARENTS, SCHOOLS, AND THE COMMUNITY; PROVIDING FREE AND CONFIDENTIAL LEGAL ADVICE AND REFERRALS TO VICTIMS OF TEEN DATING VIOLENCE IN TEXAS; AND PROVIDING LEGAL REPRESENTATION TO MINORS SEEKING PROTECTIVE ORDERS IN CENTRAL TEXAS. JUSTICE INITIATIVE - THE JUSTICE INITIATIVE IS A PROGRAM WHICH SERVES TO EDUCATE PROFESSIONALS AND ADVOCATE FOR THE PROTECTIVE ORDER PROCESS THROUGHOUT THE STATE, AS WELL AS USING APPEALS TO INCREASE ACCESS TO COURTS FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SURVIVORS.
