Mission and Program Overview

Mission

To promote long-distance running as a competitive sport and a healthy lifelong exercise. The club organizes road and trail races throughout the City of San Antonio and surrounding area. Outreach efforts include monthly fun runs to encourage health and fitness as well as training groups to encourage running. CPR/AED and First Aid Training and Certification are offered to Certified Coaches and specific volunteers working in the kids' program.

The club emphasizes a safe and runner/walker friendly venue for all of these events, providing medical, police and logistical support to all participants. IRS990/MissionDesc0To promote long distance running/walking as a competitive sport and as healthful exercise. The club organizes road races throughout the city of San Antonio and surrounding area. It also awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors in Bexar county. Outreach efforts include free monthly fun-runs and walks to encourage health and fitness, as well as training groups to encourage running/walking. A CPR, AED and First Aid Training and certification program is part of our programs as well.

These training programs are designed to help individuals improve their fitness levels to participate in running and walking events at distances ranging from 5K and 10K up to half-marathon and marathon programs. Volunteer RRCA certified coaches, experienced mentors and training pace group leaders ensured that participants in all training groups were prepared both mentally and physically to begin or continue a lifetime of health and physical fitness.

On this website, SARR publishes a monthly newsletter containing items of interest to the local running and walking community. SARR provides the local community with an online event calendar on its website which is open to the community to post running and walking events, and to promote fundraising through these events for other charitable organizations.Additionally, SARR maintains a website devoted to its training programs for the community, a Facebook page and a Meetup.com site to encourage runners and walkers of all ages and capabilities to organize and participate in runs and walks throughout the week.
