The torch award is a fund-raising event that recognizes businesses and organizations in our region committed to maintaining exceptionally high standards of ethical behavior in buyer/seller and provider/supporter relationships. Funds raised benefit lamar university, lamar institute of technolgoy, lamar college - orange and lamar college - port arthur through grants for scholarships for students in the area. The 20th torch award celebration was held in february of 2018 (delayed from our 2017 date due to hurricane harvey). The event was well attended as a "celebration of 20 years of torch' in setx. No awards were given out, but rather the bbb recognized all of our past winners and announced the changes to torch for 2019. Nearly 400 business professionals attended the event and bbb awarded 16,000 to local lamar university, lamar institute of technology, lamar state college - orange and lamar state college - port arthur to be awarded to local students as scholarships from the bbb setx endowment. It should be noted that the majority of the fundraising for the 2018 torch award celebration was recognized in 2017 while the majority of the expenses of the 2018 torch award were recognized in the 2018 calendar year.
