James Dick Foundation for the PA operates Round Top Festival Institute, a center for performance and learning, which assembles music mentors with students, and experts in arts/humanities to present cultural programs for student and public benefit.
The Foundation fosters cultural development at Round Top Festival Institute, an inspiring center for performance and learning. Talented students, music mentors and learners in arts and humanities participate in concerts, festivals and workshops throughout the year.

“The James Dick Foundation comprises a 210-acre campus, which includes historic houses, concert hall and related facilities, a museum park, and a research center with renowned collections of art, architecture, decorative arts, rare books, manuscripts, music, musical instruments, historic recordings, photography, and archival materials. The unique collections are used throughout the year to educate the public, serve researchers and creative writers, and are an integral part of all programs. Collections are displayed in period settings throughout the campus. The created 1,200-seat Festival Concert Hall facility houses the Guion Gallery of Americana, the Oxehufwud Swedish Gallery, the Interlude Gallery for changing exhibitions, the William C. Wiederhold Music Library, and the Art, Architecture, Texana and Special Collections Library. The Edythe Bates Old Chapel houses the 1835 Henry Erben pipe organ, the oldest American built organ in use in Texas today. The library has strong holdings in music, historic sheet music, books on music, art, architecture, period interiors, photography, Texas history, and British and American County House guidebooks. The James Dick Foundation Library and Museum collections have been established over a thirty-year period and continue to grow through contributions by gift and bequest. The Foundation is a member of the American Association of Museums.During 2018 and 2017, the Foundation purchased approximately $34,000 and $35,000, respectively, in additional library collections. These amounts were included in Festival-Institute program expenses in these financial statements. These purchases are funded through proceeds from an annual library fundraising event with contributions restricted to the library and museum.”

The young artists work with the faculty to study and improve their instrumental and performance skills, and learn and perform chamber music programs and a new orchestral concert each week. Their instruction is tuition-free. The students pay only a nominal fee to cover part of their room and board. The James Dick Foundation provides housing and over 12,600 meals to the young artists, faculty and guest conductors on our 210 acre campus. |

Speakers share their knowledge with students and other forum participants through engaging lectures and performances. The 2018 forum marked its 32nd anniversary and attracted almost 100 people to the campus. Theater Forum at Round Top - The annual three-day forum is designed to heighten the awareness of theater and the world of music through talks and performances by theatrical scholars and practitioners for students, teachers and the general public. 2017 marked the 20th anniversary of the annual event which brings almost a hundred people to our campus. Herbal Forum at Round Top - The annual two-day forum attracts between two and three hundred plant lovers, gardeners and herbalists to the campus each year. On the first day, registrants can participate in interactive workshops on various botanical arts and culinary practices, among others. The following day offers a schedule of educational lectures and presentations in the concert hall by professionals on the culinary and medicinal benefits and uses of various herbs, plants and spices. The Spring 2018 forum celebrated its 24th anniversary. Poetry at Round Top - The three-day forum is an annual festival presenting the nation's most exciting and prominent poets. Forum participants experience poetry through readings, workshops, and conversations. Manuscript consultations and workshops are offered to assist students in creative writing programs and aspiring poets from all walks of life in the craft of poetry. The forum also offers an afternoon designed for selected secondary school students and teachers, featuring training through readings and workshops. 2018 marked the 17th year of Poetry at Round Top. |
