“Comprehensive social services to individuals, families and children: this service has been a core program of jfs for many decades. It provides psychotherapy/counseling to individuals, couples and families, for the purpose of improving both the outlook and functions of clients. Jfs also offers emergency and on-going financial assistance, including student loans, grants for basic living expenses, and a burial subsidy program. Life education courses and workshops, employment workshops and assistance, marriage and parenting classes, and educational consulting are offered to both institutions and to the public. Spiritual counseling and practical assistance to patients in area hospitals is serviced by both professionals and volunteers. An active volunteer corps, including the involvement of teens, services many programs of the agency. Seniors receive counseling in the family and children department, but receive case management and other services in the second core program of jfs, the senior adult services department.”

“Senior adult services: the core of the program is case management and information and referral for both seniors and their family members. The goal is to keep clients safe and independent as long as possible, and to offer guidance and assistance in transition to other living arrangements if necessary. Case management includes home visits and assessment, assistance with housekeeping, post hospital care, counseling and a variety of services. In addition to jfs case managers, jfs provides ongoing assistance through additional jfs professionals to two senior facilities, goldberg towers and linemont apartments, both hud housing. Ongoing financial assistance to the neediest is provided through grants from the pauline stern wolff memorial foundation. A fund for holocaust survivors provides basic living expenses as well as emergency expenses. Spouses and children of clients who face caretaking issues are often serviced as part of the work of this department. Community workshops and programs help seniors and their families address related issues.”
