Activity 2

Community services and foster care programs - a variety of family preservation community services designed to help children and their families is provided through outreach offices in abilene, corpus christi, lufkin, dallas, el paso, houston, lubbock, north richland hills, san antonio, tyler and waco, texas and albuquerque, new mexico. Foster care provides a temporary living arrangement for children from birth through 17 years of age until the parents are able to resume parenting. Foster families are licensed through the methodist children's home, which is licensed by the texas department of family and protective services and accredited by the council of accreditation. Staff members carefully plan for the child's care, monitor progress and adjustment to the foster home setting, support the foster family through frequent telephone calls and vists, and plan for the child's eventual return to the home or alternate permanent placement.

Activity 3

Boys ranch - residental group care for a maximum of 50 boys on a 500-acre ranch northeast of waco, texas. The ranch includes 6 home units, administrative offices, a recreation and activities center, a variety of livestock pens and barns, a horse arena, and dining hall. Future farmers of america (ffa) is a significant part of the boys ranch program and youth regularly win awards for their work with animals and shop projects. Youth also participate in an after-school work program that helps them develop discipline, a strong work ethic and self-confidence.
