Mission

The Center for Creative Living, where it feels like homeThe Center for Creative Living focuses on improving the quality of life for senior citizens in SW Oklahoma. The CCL offers programs to teach & encourage physical wellness, nutrition & diet; emotional/social wellness; and intellectual wellness. Without the CCL there would be increased rates of isolation, depression, injury, illness, and early death among our senior citizens. The CCL is a critical component in the aging continuum of care and fills an important need for seniors. Active, healthy aging not only benefits individuals, but communities as well. Active seniors are more engaged, volunteer more, and generally add value to the overall fabric of a thriving community. This past year:The CCL served over 22,000 meals. We clocked 13,650 volunteer hours which has a pay value of $19,474.We found 3 new grantors: Anderson, Sarkeys, and ARPA and CDBG plus the new in at Classic Chevy. We had to cancel all inside activities again this year

History

The CCL is a local senior citizens center providing quality service and a safe, welcoming environment to seniors age 55 and older. The CCL is open daily M-F and open for rentals during evenings and weekends. The CCL is continuing the upward trend toward financial stability. Successfully writing and maintaining grants and donations maintains financial stability of the CCL. The CCL relies on guidance from the American Association of Retired Personnel, The National Council on Aging, National Institute of Senior Centers, Area Agency on Aging which provide valuable research about the needs of senior citizens. The CCL complies with mandates of the Older Americans Act of 1965 and emphasizes prevention of fraud, abuse, and neglect for the elderly. The CCL continues to see a growing number of seniors attend daily, from all areas of Oklahoma, Texas, and other states. The CCL is continually adding quality services to the daily and monthly schedule. New classes include: Bible Study Group, Alzheimer's Support Group, Parkinson's Exercise Class, Linked in Love, Glass Painting, Beginning Craft Class, Basket Weaving Class, Reading/Writing Assistance Class, Parkinson's Support Group, Shakespeare Club, Belly Dancing Class, Grief Support Group, America Veterans Support Group, Senior Health and Wellness Expo, and Friends of the Iris Club. The Senior Nutrition Program has expanded in 2019 growing from one service per week to two, Wednesdays and Fridays. The number of seniors benefiting from the Senior Nutrition Program continues to grow. The CCL will continue growing the health, wellness and educational classes and continue growing the number of senior citizens it serves. We will continue this path to help senior citizens live longer and stronger. We plan to add another meal service to our Senior Nutrition Program and maintain all classes currently benefiting our senior population. The CCL attracts a diverse population aged 55 and older but serves mostly seniors aged 70 to 90 years of age. The most recent census bureau indicated and predicted that the population of senior citizens age 65 and older living in Comanche County would increase by 1,000 seniors a year for the next ten years. This is the largest growing population in history. In 2017 the CCL had 154 seniors attending for the first time. In 2018, new participants increased to 224 senior citizens who had never visited the CCL, a 45% increase from last year. In 2019, new participants increased again to 321.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt2The CCL is a local senior citizens center providing quality service and a safe, welcoming environment to seniors age 55 and older.
