The Sceptre Foundation is committed to creating a supportive judgment-free and natural environment for children youth and families where they are valued treated with dignity and given opportunities to realize their full potential. Sceptre and its partners are responding to the urgent need to support youth who are faced with challenges including sexual behaviors poverty social messages and pressure to engage in risky behaviors. Raising sexually healthy children requires a combination of strong relationships open communication and clear messages regarding values and expectations between parent and children. Consequently the methods used to respond to these challenges include positive youth development and behavioral interventions and suppression. Multiple stakeholders throughout the city are working actively together to engage youth and families positively and to prevent and address impulsive and risky sexual behaviors. The program serves 45 students 10 -16 each year.$40,000$40,000
Mayors Summer of Hope - $40,000 The initiative will focus on gun violence reduction increasing positive summer activities and providing proactive interventions in Baton Rouges most vulnerable neighborhoods. Summer of Hope 2024 will offer numerous opportunities for everyone and address critical issues such as youth gun violence domestic violence and polarized altercations.$40,000$40,000
Big Buddy - $25,000 Early Childhood education through after-school and summer programs. The model provides individualize instruction 1 10 ratio targeting math and English arts. The States LEAP test scores are use to tailor academic remediation for each child.$25,000$25,000
2. Southern University Crime Prevention - $10,000 BFI is a collaboration of multi-denominational churches 13 dedicated to serving the needs of fragile families. Caseys Kids Count Data Book shows that in 2020 75% of black families are absent of the father and 44.4% are live in poverty. Poverty is a state or condition in which a person or community lacks the financial resources and essentials for a minimum standard of living. Words associated with the effects of poverty are indigence destitution deprivation neediness and hardship all of which are directly connected to Adverse Childhood Experiences ACE. Recent research has identified ACE as being associated with behavioral problems in children. BFI embraces these fragile families and provides rental assistance food counseling and education. The collaboration started with seven churches and today there are 13 that participate in the quest to serve as a healing and strengthening agency for fragile families.$10,000$10,000
