Activity 2

Housing and emergency assistance - encompasses three programs. One to provide financial assistance to keep individuals with hiv disease stably housed. In order to receive benefits, individuals must be hiv positive and demonstrate a need related to their hiv status. Second no/aids operates a transitional housing facility for hiv postitive individuals in houma, louisiana. Individuals may reside for up to one year before having to transition into a permanent housing situation. Thirdly the agency operates a supportive housing program for low income individuals with disabilities. The housing support team is charged with keeping individuals stably housed and maintain tenancy. Individuals in this program do not need to be hiv positive to receive services.

Activity 3

Health education - education continues to be the best method for slowing the spread of hiv/aids. This program's goal is making the community aware that prevention is vital to reducing the spread of hiv. The task force uses community and venue-based outreach to talk to adolescents, injection drug users and other high-risk individuals in a non-threatening and non-judgemental manner about their behavior. A community mobilization project develops partnerships to design and implement prevention projects in the new orleans french quarter community. Additionally, the task force operates specific evidence-based interventions (including hiv antibody counseling, testing and referral) that are supported by scientific research. The education program also performs health education presentations throughout southeast louisiana.
