Mission

Hope builders construction company strives to fast-track unemployed, but skilled youth, with significant barriers to employment, to living-wage jobs by giving them an opportunity to refine their skill set through transitional employment alongside master tradesmen.

Hope Builders, Inc. supports the educational activities of Taller San Jose (TSJ), a CA non-profit public benefit corp. tax-exempt under IRC 501(c)(3), by expanding the employment & education of at-risk youth through job opportunities provided to the graduates of TSJ.

The sole member of Hope Builders, Inc. is Taller San Jose, a California non-profit public benefit coproration tax-exempt under IRC 501(c)(3).

Form 990, Part VI, Line 7A: How Members or Shareholders Elect Governing Body

Taller San Jose must approve all appointments and removals of member of the Board.

Form 990, Part VI, Line 7B: Describe Decisions of Governing Body Approval by Members or Shareholders

Taller San Jose, as the only member must approve:(a) amendment or other changes in the bylaws,(b) Appointment and removal of the Executive Director,(c) Appointment and removal of the members of the Board,(d) Dissolution of the Corporation, or filing of any action in bankruptcy, receivership or similar action,(e) The sale or transfer of all or substantially all of the assets, and(f) And change to the structore or operation that would affect its status ad a nonprofit public benefit Corporation.

Form 990, Part VI, Line 11B: Form 990 Review Process

The Finance Committee of Taller San Jose reviewed the form at a regularly scheduled meeting, and it was sent to all Board members in advance of approval at a regualarly scheduled Board meeting.

Form 990, Part VI, Line 12C: Explanation of Monitoring and Enforcement of Conflicts

Each member of the Board must complete a Conflict of Interest form prior to election to the Board. As of February 2011, each Board Member must complete a Conflict of Interest Form annually.

The Executive Director is also the Executive Director of Taller San Jose, and is not compensated by the Corporation

Compensation of the Leadership Team is approved in June as part of the budget process, and is proposed by the Executive Director. Comparative compensation data is provided to the Board at that time. Bonus compensation is approved in October for the Leadership Team.

Program, Fundraising and Management expense allocations are completed as presented in our audited financial statements, which are consolidated with Taller San Jose. Almost all the Fundraising and Management functions are performed by Taller San Jose staff. On Schedule R, we reported sharing of facilities (question n), and paid employees (question o). We have not determined the values for these items, but both are paid by Taller San Jose.
