“Professionals assisting ChildrenUP include a bookkeeper who reviews and reconciles the monthly accounts and Edward Jones fees.”

“Expenses include Director and Officer Insurance, Workman's Comp Insurance for our first part-time paid director. Director's computer and supplies. State compliance annual fees. Internet fees including name registration, website and cloud storage. Bank fees and expenses from all fundraisers are included.”

“In 2023 the Children UP Board hired its first paid employee, a new part-time Director beginning in September 2022. We increased the number of student beneficiaries by ten new Senior 1 students. Four students continued beyond secondary school into certificate nursing programs. Two students enrolled at the university. We provided mobile technology to more students because the curriculum has more research and group projects. Expenses were greater than income for this year however there were funds available to meet all needs.”

“Children UP supports Ugandan post-primary education in the districts of Gulu, Nwoya Amuru and Omoro. Equal numbers of young men and women are invited into the program who have high scores in the seventh grade leaving exams, been recommended by their teachers as having a thirst for knowledge and would benefit from financial support. Secondary boarding schools are carefully selected. A two-tiered mentoring system assures that students have not only academic bu social/emotional support. Before a student is selected, ChildrenUP has built the funds to support that student for six year. Students are eligible for annual renewal by maintaining strong grades, following the rules of their schools and actively engaging in communications with our mentors. For higher education, the students cost-share on an individual basis and take a more active role in communicating with the mentors. Our goal is to provide students with the skills that need to become productive members of their society. Fifty one students are enrolled as beneficiaries this year.There is a 87% student success rate in our program.”

“All board members volunteer their time, resources and expertise with no compensation. In September 2022, the board hired its first paid part-time Director.”

“Children UP is a registered Illinois corporation with nonprofit status. Children UP has registered for state compliance in CA, CO, FL, KS, MI, MN, NC, OH, SC, WI. It has received exempt status in NY.”
