IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0Healthy Food for AllIn 2016 we processed and distributed 67,482 pounds of prepared food from large cafeterias as well as 20,056 pounds of local produce procured from area farms. To process food donations, besides general community support, we also forged relationships with the State of Wisconsin Department of Corrections and Healthy Food for All became a site for offenders leaving the correctional system to complete required community service while, at the same time, making connections with the larger society. We also forged a relationship with the Dane County Job Center to accept referrals from the Food Stamp Employment and Training (FSET) program for clients needing work hours. All told, Healthy Food for All had 87 volunteers in 2016 who donated 904 hours of time to help advance our mission. In other activity, Healthy Food for All gave multiple presentations to interested groups as well as participated in a variety of panel discussions around Dane County. These discussions centered around hunger, food recovery, and food waste issues. Healthy Food for All was a lead partner with Dane County UW Extension in presenting a food waste symposium and food recovery meal at Madison College for world Food Day in October.

Twelve volunteers took shifts this year at the twice-weekly four-hour sessions, held in an accessible public downtown laundromat. Four volunteers oversaw data collection and reporting, supply purchasing, fund raising and donor relations, and volunteer coordination. Expenses were washer/dryer machine operation and laundry supplies to satisfy the over 4763 visits that were made to accomplish over 11,200 loads of wash. Private and faith based funding sources were complimented by support from the City of Madison, Madison Rotary Foundation, and the Evjue Foundation Inc. charitable arm of the Capital Times.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc5Open Doors for RefugeesDuring this period, we first created a 12-person leadership team that oversees ODFR programs and activities. We then established our working organizational structure consisting of several teams for collecting and storing furniture and household goods, finding apartments for refugees, furnishing those apartments, finding jobs, providing transportation, translation, and ESL, and organizing events. As we prepared to work with refugees, we first secured and maintain two furniture storage areas. Throughout the last several months of this period then we collected furniture and household items, which we used to set up apartments for ten arriving refugee families. We also assisted them with finding work, getting into and to ESL classes, providing rides as needed, translating, and interpreting, etc. In addition to working for and with refugees, we also work to build community awareness and support for refugees, so during this period we conducted two public events. The first in July was a community picnic at Olin Park that drew about 250 people including about 40 refugees. The second in November was a soup and movie event on the East side that filled the 70-seat capacity. This event had a two-fold purpose to raise community awareness and to raise funds (about $2000) for ODFR.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc7Last year, 2016 was a very busy year for ABCD in Action! We developed a new 501(c)3 for the ABCD Institute, which included identifying and developing a new board of directors, writing up our by-laws, applying for non-profit status, and holding our first board meeting. The members of the board also interviewed all individuals who are designated "Faculty" of the ABCD Institute to determine their priorities for the Institute, as well as their gifts and talents and interest in continuing as an active member of the Faculty. The board held an all-Faculty meeting in Chicago and created 4 workgroups as a result of the conversations held at that meeting. We identified a new institutional partner (DePaul University), developed a working agreement with them, and moved our offices to the Stean Center on their campus. ABCD in Action is now officially a part of the ABCD Institute and serving as the online community of practice as well as the key communication link to ABCD practitioners around the world.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc8Transformational Training FundIn 2016 this project supported 8 people to attend transformational leadership trainings, conferences, and somatic coaching sessions. In addition, we brought a transformational consultant, Adrienne Maree Brown, to Madison to support community-building among past attendees of somatics trainings. The work of recruiting and supporting people to attend these trainings was done by one volunteer.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc9Wagon DriveIn August 2016, the Wagon Drive held its 9th school and food supply drive. Kids have gathered every summer since 2009 (two held in 2009) to collect school supplies, non-perishable food, cleaning supplies, and toiletry items. Besides collecting items, kids also raised $2218.78 by seeking donations, selling t-shirts, and having a fundraiser night at Culver's. All items collected and purchased (through funds raised) were provided to known unnamed kids in need at Franklin and Randall Elementary Schools, Madison's Transition Education Program (TEP), The Road Home, St. Mark's Lutheran Church Food Pantry, kids living in the and Bayview Neighborhood. We served 19 Franklin and Randall kindergarteners, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, and 102 more kids from the Bayview Neighborhood ranging from 4K through 12th grade. We also extended our reach to provide socks and binders to kids at Cherokee Middle School. Many more kids were helped indirectly by us with the other supplies and items donated to TEP, the Road Home, and the food pantry.
