HOMELESS PREVENTION
Davis Community Meals, dba Davis Community Meals and Housing , a nonprofit corporation, is organized under the laws of the State of for the purpose of providing food, temporary housing, and human services to low-income and homeless individuals and families to help them rebuild their lives. Davis Community Meals, dba Davis Community Meals and Housing (the Organization) is supported primarily through government grants and private donor contributions.All programs offer a variety of supportive services including case management, life skills training, employment counseling, drug/alcohol counseling, mental health counseling, housing placement and assistance, homeless prevention services and referrals. The Organization finished construction of Paul's Place to replace the old shelter and resource center in May 2023.

“OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Resource Center:The Day Shelter (Resource Center) is open Monday through Friday and provides homeless and low-income individuals and families access to showers, personal hygiene products, and other necessities. Additionally, the Center provides transportation services, computer services, and mail service. Services are also provided for career counseling, substance abuse counseling, and mental health counseling. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Outreach Program:The street outreach program has several objectives: provide a comprehensive overview of who is homeless on the streets of Davis, prioritize services to the most vulnerable of those on the streets, and offer and provide wrap around services to those willing to accept them. The program provides outreach, engagement, referrals, mutual trust, and services to the homeless in Davis. The Organization staff are working with the local police, Yolo County Continuum of Care, and county staff and programs to provide services to the individuals in the program. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: Meals Program:The Meals Program provides a free meal on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and lunch on Saturday to seniors, low-income, and homeless individuals and families and any other member of the community. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: PAUL'S PLACE:Paul's Place is an innovative multi-use four-story building that includes a day-use resource center, and emergency, transitional, and permanent supportive housing. Created with broad input from throughout the city of Davis, this vertical community is a local response to a national problem. Paul's Place is designed to help those who are homeless and at-risk to move from the streets to stability, with a goal to improve individual and community health and wellbeing.Paul's Place opened its doors at the end of the fiscal year. The four-story multi-functional building provides:- 18 units of 300-square-foot permanent supportive micro-housing- 10 units of transitional housing- four emergency shelter beds- enhanced day services including expanded shower, restroom, and laundry facilities to serve individuals experiencing homelessness in Davis.”
“Davis Community Meals, pursuant to a determination letter from the Internal Revenue Service, is exempt from Federal and State income taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code and Section 23701(d) of the California Revenue and Taxation Code. The accounting standard on accounting for uncertainty in income taxes addresses the determination of whether tax benefits claimed or expected to be claimed on a tax return should be recorded in the financial statements. Under that guidance, the Organization may recognize the tax benefit from an uncertain tax position only if it is more likely than not that the tax position will be sustained on examination by taxing authorities based on the technical merits of the position. Examples of tax positions include the tax-exempt status of the Organization and various positions related to the potential sources of unrelated business taxable income (UBIT). The tax benefits recognized in the financial statements from such a position are measured based on the largest benefit that has a greater than 50% likelihood of being realized upon ultimate settlement. There were no unrecognized tax benefits identified or recorded as liabilities at June 30, 2023.”

The accounting standard on accounting for uncertainty in income taxes addresses the determination of whether tax benefits claimed or expected to be claimed on a tax return should be recorded in the financial statements. Under that guidance, the Organization may recognize the tax benefit from an uncertain tax position only if it is more likely than not that the tax position will be sustained on examination by taxing authorities based on the technical merits of the position. Examples of tax positions include the tax-exempt status of the Organization and various positions related to the potential sources of unrelated business taxable income (UBIT). The tax benefits recognized in the financial statements from such a position are measured based on the largest benefit that has a greater than 50% likelihood of being realized upon ultimate settlement. There were no unrecognized tax benefits identified or recorded as liabilities at June 30, 2023. |

Additionally, the Center provides transportation services, computer services, and mail service. Services are also provided for career counseling, substance abuse counseling, and mental health counseling. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Outreach Program:The street outreach program has several objectives: provide a comprehensive overview of who is homeless on the streets of Davis, prioritize services to the most vulnerable of those on the streets, and offer and provide wrap around services to those willing to accept them. The program provides outreach, engagement, referrals, mutual trust, and services to the homeless in Davis. The Organization staff are working with the local police, Yolo County Continuum of Care, and county staff and programs to provide services to the individuals in the program. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: Meals Program:The Meals Program provides a free meal on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and lunch on Saturday to seniors, low-income, and homeless individuals and families and any other member of the community. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: PAUL'S PLACE:Paul's Place is an innovative multi-use four-story building that includes a day-use resource center, and emergency, transitional, and permanent supportive housing. Created with broad input from throughout the city of Davis, this vertical community is a local response to a national problem. Paul's Place is designed to help those who are homeless and at-risk to move from the streets to stability, with a goal to improve individual and community health and wellbeing.Paul's Place opened its doors at the end of the fiscal year. The four-story multi-functional building provides:- 18 units of 300-square-foot permanent supportive micro-housing- 10 units of transitional housing- four emergency shelter beds- enhanced day services including expanded shower, restroom, and laundry facilities to serve individuals experiencing homelessness in Davis. |
