Mission and Program Overview

Mission

We are a Christian housing ministry based on the goal of providing decent housing for all people, regardless of race or creed. We build affordable homes in partnership with families in need, supported by volunteers, donors, faith-based organizations and businesses for the betterment of our community. Churches, individuals, businesses, and other groups contribute funds. When complete, houses are sold at no profit and no interest to the designated families. We continue to build homes as contributions and volunteer hours allow. Family selection is based upon need, ability to pay, demonstrated responsibility, and willingness to partner with us.We welcome all applicants and do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex or, age, or due to all or part of an applicant's income being derived from any public assistance program, or because an applicant has, in good faith, exercised any right under the Consumer Credit Protection Act.

Part X : FIN48 Footnote

The preparation of financial statements in conformity with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America requires Habitat to report information regarding its exposure to various tax positions taken. Habitat has determined whether any tax positions have met the recognition threshold and have measured the exposure to those tax positions. Management believes that Habitat has adequately addressed all relevant tax positions and that there are no unrecorded tax liabilities. Federal and state tax authorities generally have the right to examine and audit the previous three years of tax returns filed. Any interest or penalties assessed to Habitat are recorded in operating expenses. No interest or penalties from federal or state tax authorities were recorded in the accompanying consolidated financial statements.

IRS990/Desc0Sacramento Habitat for Humanity builds affordable housing for qualified low income Sacramento County families. Qualified families' incomes fall between 30%-60% of Sacramento County AMI (as determined by HUD). During the year ended June 30, 2014, Sacramento Habitat engaged over 2,000 volunteers to complete and transfer 8 homes to new Habitat homeowners 3 rehabs and 5 new homes. As of June 30, 2014, Sacramento Habitat was nearly halfway done with its Indian Lane development. The second phase of construction is almost complete, and 7 of the 14 homes were transferred to their new owners by September 2014. Two more will be done in December 2014, and the final phase of construction is scheduled to be complete during the summer of 2015.Sacramento Habitat for Humanity continues to support the building of homes for families in need by Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) in Nicaragua. Habitat hosted its 4th and 5th Global Village trips during the 2013/14 fiscal year, as well as one Global Village Summit. During the upcoming fiscal year, Sacramento Habitat will take an additional 3 Global Village Trips to Nicaragua, one of which will be a team of all women, led by SHFH CFO, Anne Gambino. By March 2015, Sacramento Habitat for Humanity will have tithed over 1-million dollars to the Nicaragua affiliate during their 25-year partnership with one another.Sacramento Habitat for Humanity's retail recycling facility, the ReStore, sells donated, quality building materials at greatly discounted rates to all members of the general public. This project should allow low-income homeowners, in particular, the opportunity to save their homes from disrepair. IRS990/MissionDesc0We are a Christian housing ministry based on the goal of providing decent housing for all people, regardless of race or creed. We build affordable homes in partnership with families in need, supported by volunteers, donors, faith-based organizations and businesses for the betterment of our community. Churches, individuals, businesses, and other groups contribute funds. When complete, houses are sold at no profit and no interest to the designated families. We continue to build homes as contributions and volunteer hours allow. Family selection is based upon need, ability to pay, demonstrated responsibility, and willingness to partner with us.We welcome all applicants and do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex or, age, or due to all or part of an applicant's income being derived from any public assistance program, or because an applicant has, in good faith, exercised any right under the Consumer Credit Protection Act.
