DescriptionGrantsExpenses
We Care Mission Food Pantry is the largest program of We Care Mission from the standpoint of number of people helped, ongoing expenses, and in the number of faithful volunteers. In 2021 on an average monthly basis, We Care Mission Food Pantry provided food assistance to 243 households representing 445 people. A total of 2911 boxes of food was distributed during 2021. In support of the food distribution, We Care Mission Food Pantry purchased food totaling $33, 349.00 at favorable prices primarily from a local grocery store. In addition, We Care Mission Food Pantry is an agency of the Mississippi Food Network. Twice a month volunteers drive to the Mississippi Food Network to pick up food for We Care Mission Food Pantry for distribution by the food pantry to Scott County households qualifying for food assistance. In 2021, approximately 117,674 pounds of food was received as a result of the agency relationship with the Mississippi Food Network with the food have a nominal cost or no cost. Pre-covid, twice monthly food distributions of We Care Mission Food Pantry were conducted from the fellowship hall of Morton United Methodist Church and from a building provided by the Scott County Board of Supervisors. During covid, food distributions were conducted from the same locations utilizing a drive-thru format. As previously indicated, the We Care Mission Food Pantry is supported by faithful volunteers. The average volunteer at We Care Mission gives approximately 8 to 10 hours of his or her time each month to conduct the food distributions of We Care Mission. It is noted that We Care Mission Food Pantry has been recognized for the positive impact in the community and is very thankful for community support.$0$36,935
We Care Mission Thrift Shop is a major Christian outreach ministry of We Care Mission established by the Christian community of Scott County, Mississippi to share and show the love of Jesus Christ for all people in the community through the provision of food and clothing assistance to those in need of such assistance. In its operation of the thrift shop, We Care Mission seeks to follow the example of Jesus Christ in reaching out to all people. We Care Mission Thrift Shop is the beneficiary of a generous community residing in Scott County and surrounding areas that is willing to share with others clothing and household items that they no longer need. Besides being an entity through which people can share with others clothes and household items they no longer need and an entity where purchases of such shares can be accomplished by the people in the community of Scott County, other resulting accomplishments of We Care Mission Thrift Shop are a caring presence in the community, a social setting for volunteers and customers to enrich their lives, and a source of funding support for We Care Mission Food Pantry which during 2021 provided food assistance monthly to approximately 243 Scott County households representing more than 446 people. Besides being a place to provide clothes to all people at a reasonable place or in some cases free in the case of emergencies or lack of money, it is emphasized that the We Care Mission Thrift Shop is very important to the funding of the primary outreach ministry of We Care Mission--the food distribution program conducted by the We Care Mission Food Pantry. One of the purposes of We Care Mission Thrift Shop is to make We Care Mission to the extent possible self supporting relative to We Care Mission Food Pantry without the need to do a lot of fundraising. On the other hand, We Care Mission Thrift Shop has the purpose to provide clothes to people in need. These two purposes (the need to fund We Care Mission Food Pantry and the need to help people with their clothing needs) impact clothing prices at the We Care Mission Thrift Shop. We Care Mission Thift Shop relative to clothing prices charges $1.00 per item for adult clothing and $.50 per item for children's clothing. We Care Mission has been blessed in the present and in the past in the accomplishment of these purposes for the We Care Mission Thrift Shop and importantly it has been successful in providing 40% to 50% of the funding of food purchases of We Care Mission Food Pantry. It it emphasized that these funds to partially support We Care Mission result from the generosity of the community in donating clothes to We Care Mission and the hard work of volunteers as they seek to turn the donated clothes into funding for the We Care Mission Food Pantry. It is noted that We Care Mission realized $17,770 in gross proceeds from the clothes donated in 2021 and that amount is included in the total amount of $52,147 included in Line 1 of Part 1. Although the value of the donated clothes by the community was valued at $17,770, many more clothes were donated and those excess clothes are either reflected in the store inventory or were taken to other missions for their thrift shops or for bundling. We Care Mission Thrift Shop, as all outreach ministries of We Care Mission including the food distribution program of We Care Mission Food Pantry, are supported totally by volunteers. No one receives any compensation relative to any of the outreach ministries of We Care Mission. It is noted that the We Care Mission during 2021 was open just about every Saturday during 2021 for three hours----9 to 12 in the morning.$0$5,633
Working cooperatively with We Care Mission Thrift Shop as a related Christian outreach ministry of We Care Mission, We Care Mission Clothes Closet provides free clothes and household items to individuals in the community needing proven emergency assistance with clothing and household items or lacking the funds to purchase clothes and household items from We Care Mission Thrift Shop even at the nominal prices for clothing and household items existing at the We Care Mission Thrift Shop. Expenses of the We Care Mission Clothes Closet are included in the expenses of We Care Mission Thrift Shop shown above.$0$0

There was no Other revenue

Form 990-EZ, Part I, Line 16

Other expenses totaled $40,079 including Thrift Shop and Food Pantry expenses $1,075, Fees $50, Sales Tax $1,307, Insurance $2,424, Freezer $678, and Food Ministry expenses for purchase of food $34,545.

Form 990-EZ, Part II, Line 24

The minus $141 represents overpayment of accounts receivable by Hispanic Food Pantry. The Hispanic Food Pantry was established August 2019 to assist members of Hispanic community impacted by the ICE raids on chicken plants in cental Mississippi. We Care Mission provided assistance to the Hispanic Food Pantry for the approximate 11 months it was opened closing in August 2020. This negative balance in this account is still reflected in the books of We Care Mission. We Care Mission played a significant role in assisting the Hispanic Food Pantry during the time it was opened providing services normally provided in operating a pantry. It is noted that this item has been transferred to the liability section. The E-filing program required us to change beginning and ending accounts receivable amounts in a negative amount of $141 to a liability in the amount of $141. Therefore, the beginning and ending balances were transferred to the liability section. Please see the liability section for the reporting of the negative account receivable as a liability

Form 990-EZ, Part II, Line 26

Other than the liability reported, We Care Mission had no other liabilities as it paid its expenses and liabilities on a current basis. It is noted that the liability was recognized in previously filed returns in the asset section relative to overpayment of receivable by Hispanic Food Pantry. The E-filing program required us to move the negative accounts receivable in the amount of negative $141 to the liabilities section of the balance sheet. Please note previous explanation that this liability results from overpayment of accounts receivable by Hispanic Food Pantry.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0There was no Other revenue
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1Other expenses totaled $40,079 including Thrift Shop and Food Pantry expenses $1,075, Fees $50, Sales Tax $1,307, Insurance $2,424, Freezer $678, and Food Ministry expenses for purchase of food $34,545.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt2The minus $141 represents overpayment of accounts receivable by Hispanic Food Pantry.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt3Other than the liability reported, We Care Mission had no other liabilities as it paid its expenses and liabilities on a current basis.
