The Birmingham Historical Society researches and interprets the history of Birmingham and its surroundings and helps initiate and support the preservation of historic landmarks, parks, and neighborhoods.

Birmingham Historical Society's mission is to celebrate Birmingham's history through research, publishing, and education.

This is accomplished through multiple venues including formal lectures delivered at the annual meeting and often accompanied by the release of publications, newletters, and website and facebook posts on diverse topics published as interest arises, visits to explore historic homes accompanied by a published history of the property and its recent preservation, and talks in the Society's offices and in the demonstration garden the Society maintains at the Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark.
