Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

Form 990

All philanthropic work of the phi mu fraternity is the responsibility of the foundation. The collegiate and alumnae chapters fundraising and publicity for philanthropic purposes are directed primarily towards the children's miracle network. During the years ended june 30, 2014 and 2013, the collegiate and alumnae chapters and individual members, through the direction of the foundation, raised and remitted approximately 1,279,000 and 896,000, to this charity, respectively.

Leadership center, the phi mu undergraduate interfraternity institute, phi mu impact, and the chapter consultant program.

Form 990, Part V

Phi mu foundation leases its employees from an unrelated tax exempt organization, phi mu fraternity. Accordingly, the foundation is not required to file form w-3.

Form 990, Part XI, Line 9

Loss in investment in phi mu real estate holding (depr) -72,432 change in value of charitable remainder trust 37,145 change in cash surrender value of life insurance policies 10,257

Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Page 2, Part III, Line 4

The foundation has many historical treasures that are held for exhibition to the public. These treasures include phi mu jewelry, badges and memorabilia. It is the foundation's policy to protect and preserve these artifacts for future generations. The foundation has elected not to capitalize these collections because of their priceless nature.

Schedule D, Page 2, Part V, Line 4

The intended use of the endowment funds are for the continual development and educational support of phi mu women and philanthropic support.

Schedule D, Page 3, Part X

Fasb asc 740 requires the evaluation of tax positions taken or expected to be taken in the course of preparing the foundation's tax returns to determine whether the tax positions would "more-likely-than-not" be-than-not sustained if challenged by an applicable tax authority. Tax positions not deemed to meet the more-likely-than-not threshold would be recorded as a tax benefit or expense in the current year. The foundation evaluates its uncertain tax provisions using provisions fasb 450, contingencies. Management believes there are no material estimates that should be accrued as of june 30, 2014. The foundation believes it is no longer subject to income tax examinations for years prior to 2011.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0PHILANTHROPY: SINCE 1986, CHILDREN'S MIRACLE NETWORK HOSPITALS (CMNH) HAS BEEN PHI MU'S PRIMARY PHILANTHROPIC FOCUS. THERE ARE 170 CHILDREN'S HOSPITALS NATIONWIDE THAT BENEFIT FROM LOCAL COLLEGIATE AND ALUMNAE CHAPTER INVOLVEMENT. FUNDS HAVE BEEN RAISED THROUGH A VARIETY OF EVENTS INCLUDING DANCE MARATHONS, GOLF TOURNAMENTS, COOK-OFFS AND MANY MORE. AS A NATIONAL PARTNER WITH CHILDREN'S MIRACLE NETWORK HOSPITALS, PHI MU FRATERNITY (THROUGH THE ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES OF THE FOUNDATION) HAS COMMITTED TO CONTRIBUTE AT LEAST 500,000 ANNUALLY. EACH COLLEGIATE AND ALUMNAE CHAPTER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR RAISING FUNDS FOR THIS IMPORTANT PHILANTHROPY.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0HISTORIC PRESERVATION - THE FOUNDATION MAINTAINS, PRESERVES AND PROMOTES PHI MU'S HISTORY IN THE ARCHIVES AND MUSEUM LOCATED IN THE NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS IN PEACHTREE CITY, GEORGIA WHICH DISPLAYS SUCH ITEMS AS THE PRESIDENT'S CHAIR FROM THE PHILOMATHEAN HALL AT WESLEYAN COLLEGE, ORIGINAL BADGES, AND A TEXTILE COLLECTION OF PAST NATIONAL PRESIDENTS' DRESSES. IN ADDITION, THE FOUNDATION IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF THE PHILOMATHEAN ROOM IN THE CANNONBALL HOUSE, A HISTORIC CIVIL WAR ERA HOME PRESERVED IN MACON, GEORGIA. ON DISPLAY IN THIS ROOM ARE MANY ARCHIVAL ITEMS. THE FOUNDATION ALSO PROVIDES BROCHURES THAT DESCRIBE THE ROOM AND FURNISHINGS FOR VISITORS WHO TOUR THE HOUSE.
