Governance Explanations

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 7A

The board chair leads the nomination process each year. They ask board members to submit names and bios of recommended candidates and then the full board votes on the new members each december for terms beginning in january.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 11B

The organization will provide a copy of the form 990 to all members of the board for review, prior to filing. The board chair, executive committee (which includes the treasurer), executive director and bookkeeper review the form 990 to ensure accuracy. Once complete, the executive director will submit the form 990 to givingmatters.com (of the community foundation of middle tennessee) for public review.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 12C

Officers, directors, trustees and key employees discuss potential conflicts of interest whenever relevant during employee interviews, and board and executive committee meetings. The organization reviews its conflict of interest policy at the beginning of each calendar year so that new board members are educated and renewing members are reminded of the policy. The conflict of interest policy is included in the board member handbook, distributed to each board member. In this way, the board chair and executive committee will monitor and enforce compliance with the policy.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 15A

The board of directors establishes the compensation of the executive director and approves salary increases on an annual basis, in june of each year.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 15B

The executive director works with the board to establish compensation packages for other officers and key employees. The executive director makes recommendations on compensation the board reviews and approves the recommendations. The executive director conducts annual performance reviews for all employees, and then makes recommendations for salary increases, which are subject to board approval.

FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

Nashville conflict resolution center (ncrc) works to provide access to justice for all tennesseeans. Through a restorative approach of mediation, we help people resolve legal crises quickly, safely, and effectively outside of a courtroom.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Ncrc provides low-income middle tennesseans with free and sliding-scale mediation services. Mediation is a uniquely equitable and inclusive process in the justice system, because it prioritizes the voices and decision- making power of the participants, and it preserves confidentiality. As the only nonprofit mediation center serving davidson county and most of middle tennessee, ncrc relies primarily on partnerships with courts, district attorneys, and other nonprofit agencies to identify people in need of services. These referral partners understand that our clients tend to fare poorly in court, but that they are able to exercise agency and accountability through mediation. Courts also appreciate that we remove cases from overcrowded dockets and instead provide confidential services that allow clients to settle issues without seeing a judge. Case types including landlord-tenant, debtor-creditor, workplace, neighbor, custody/visitation, youth altercation, and domestic disputes. Ncrc's services are delivered either in-person or via remote conferencing, which ensures that no one is excluded because of technological, physical, emotional, or geographic barriers. We also provide interpreters for languages other than english, including asl. Other services include the provision of court-approved mediator training and mentoring; regular continuing education for attorneys and mediators; conflict management workshops for community groups; and mediation services for nonprofit, educational, and government organizations.

IRS990/Desc0NCRC PROVIDES LOW-INCOME MIDDLE TENNESSEANS WITH FREE AND SLIDING-SCALE MEDIATION SERVICES. CASE TYPES INCLUDING LANDLORD-TENANT, DEBTOR-CREDITOR, WORKPLACE, NEIGHBOR, CUSTODY/VISITATION, YOUTH ALTERCATION, AND DOMESTIC DISPUTES. IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0NASHVILLE CONFLICT RESOLUTION CENTER (NCRC) WORKS TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO JUSTICE FOR ALL TENNESSEEANS. THROUGH A RESTORATIVE APPROACH OF MEDIATION, WE HELP PEOPLE RESOLVE LEGAL CRISES QUICKLY, SAFELY, AND EFFECTIVELY OUTSIDE OF A COURTROOM.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1NCRC PROVIDES LOW-INCOME MIDDLE TENNESSEANS WITH FREE AND SLIDING-SCALE MEDIATION SERVICES. MEDIATION IS A UNIQUELY EQUITABLE AND INCLUSIVE PROCESS IN THE JUSTICE SYSTEM, BECAUSE IT PRIORITIZES THE VOICES AND DECISION- MAKING POWER OF THE PARTICIPANTS, AND IT PRESERVES CONFIDENTIALITY.
