Founded in 2009, Leviathan Lab is an award-winning not-for-profit creative studio whose mission is the advancement of Asian and Asian American (A/AA) performing artists and their work. Through the speaking of A/AA artists' words, and the presentation of A/AA bodies, presence, and gestures on stage and film, Leviathan works to open spaces that promote social justice, bridge communities, and assert the power of art to change the world. We function as a lab where early-career and established A/AA artists can be courageous, experiment, and thrive as they create works that captivate the audiences we serve. Under the direction of Founder and Producing Artistic Director Ariel Estrada, Leviathan's programs for AAPI theatre artists include DEVELOPMENT OF NEW PLAYS through commissions, workshops and readings.
Founded in 2009, Leviathan Lab is a tax exempt (501(c)3) not-for-profit creative studio whose mission is to invest in the advancement of Asian American performing artists and their work. Leviathan was founded with the goals of expanding the reach of Asian American artistic voices, and telling our stories to communities who haven't yet had the joy of experiencing them. Our projects - online, on film, and on stage - strive to include Asian Americans in the greater cultural conversation in innovative and dynamic ways: sexy, powerful, vital, and fun.

| 2014 NATIONAL ASIAN AMERICAN THEATRE CONFERENCE & FESTIVAL OCTOBER 2014 Rainbow Connections: Sharing & Building Theatre Programs for Asian American Youth On Friday, October 11, 2014, Leviathan Lab Applied Theatre Initiative Co-Directors Lydia Gaston and Claro De Los Reyes spoke as part of the panel Rainbow Connections: Sharing & Building Theatre Programs for Asian American Youth at the Consortium of Asian American Theaters & Artists' 2014 National Asian American Theater Conference at the Asian American Arts Initiative in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Lydia and Claro, along with Mu Performing Arts Artistic Director Randy Reyes; National Asian Artists Project Board Director Nina Zoie Lam; and playwright, director, and taiko drum artist Rick Shiomi, panel moderator. ABOUT THE PANEL RAINBOW CONNECTIONS: Sharing & Building Theatre Programs for Asian American Youth explored using theater with Asian American youth and their communities to create a new generation of leadership and artistry. Leaders of successful models from existing youth programs discussed their programs and share best practices. Through panel member presentations - including slide decks, videos, script readings, and facilitated group discussion - attendees gained insight and inspiration towards the creation of theatre programs for Asian American youth in their home communities. They learned the challenges and best practices for these programs as they examine different models of bringing art to a community - from traditional hierarchical methods, the co-intentional, learner-centered approach inherent in Freirean pedagogy. Using theatre conventions to promote an interactive dialogue among the panel and the participants, the panel examined how, when, and why either or any of these methods may be used.
