General

The michelle fuerniss scholarship is awarded biannually to students currently enrolled in the kemi program. The scholarship is awarded in the form of a tuition waiver for a future session of the kemi program or a cash award at the conclusion of each session of the kemi program (spring and fall) to the intern(s) who best exemplify the following characteristics: sincere love of horses; commitment to future employment in the equine industry; community involvement; and excellent work ethic. Any current kemi intern in good standing is eligible to apply for this scholarship by submitting the following items to the kemi coordinator before the mid-term of the kemi session in which they are enrolled: a cover letter letter stating the intern's intent to apply for the scholarship; a typewritten essay detailing what the horse industry means to the intern and their long-range goals and future plans as they relate to this industry; and at least one letter of recommendation written by the intern's host farm manager or supervisor. Approximately 2-3 weeks after the deadline for receipt of the applications, personal interviews of the top candidates will be conducted by a committee made up of members of the kemi board of directors and members of the fuerniss family or their designee.
