Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
The Foundations primary exempt purpose is to raise the educational and social levels of disadvantaged youth residing in Columbus, GA. Many of these are members of the minority community whose parents are unemployed or substantially underemployed and whose income is below Federal Poverty Guidelines. We work with other community organizations to provide educational and social opportunities that would otherwise not be available to these young people. In doing so, we help them build a foundation that will allow them to rise above the poverty, crime and other negative influences of their usual environment. During 2016, the Foundation was involved in several areas beneficial to the Columbus area. The primary event was the 2016 Sam Mitchell Dream and Achieve Basketball Camp which was held at Columbus State University. This camp receives donated time from Sam Mitchell, former Head Coach of the Toronto Raptors, as well as other NBA professionals and many successful local business professionals. In addition to focusing on basketball skills, the camp includes daily personal growth sessions where the kids are mentored by local professionals. This camp is free of charge to approximately 200 children who are referred by the Parks & Recreation Dept., The Boys and Girls Club and the Public Housing Authority. The Foundation also sponsors a Learning Center which provides after school tutoring to students who live in one of the Public Housing apartment complexes in Columbus. The third major event is a life enrichment tour which the Foundation sponsors which allows 20 local children to experience a three to four day trip outside of their normal environment.$41,414-
