Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

2022 was another strong year for tree house books and the community we are building here in north central philadelphia. We emerged on the other end of the pandemic restrictions with three new programs, and one that we were able to retire thanks to the children returning to school full time. Our staff and board continue to grow in both ability, diversity, and in number. We started the year with a plan and are seeing the first fruits of that plan as we arrive in 2023. Our programs started off in 2022 with the second half of our after school literacy studio. That program served 42 k-8th grade students. Our summer literacy studio served 22 k-5th graders, and also featured 10 middle and high school students participating as junior staff. We were excited to be able to give our high school students a stipend for their summer participation. Our summer book delivery and literacy intervention program, words on wheel, delivered books to 186 youth in 87 families, 55 participated in our intervention program and saw a 96% success rate our community outreach remained a strong focus in 2022. At the annual philadelphia literacy day event, we gave away 1,160 books; 394 people came and experienced the drill team, shaolin knights martial arts, buttercup the therapy horse, and readings from the stage and in our children's zone. It all culminated in a poetry reading and butterfly release to honor those families who have lost loved ones to gun violence. We also held 4 book swaps, reaching 109 people in those young-adult focused outreach events. Finally, our board and fundraising efforts remained healthy. We brought on 4 new board members, saw 3 roll off, and are now at 13, with almost 50% reflecting the black community we serve. The board also has alumni and neighborhood participation. In 2022, we won the citizen's champions in action award, and held our first in-person fundraising event since 2019.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt12022 WAS ANOTHER STRONG YEAR FOR TREE HOUSE BOOKS AND THE COMMUNITY WE ARE BUILDING HERE IN NORTH CENTRAL PHILADELPHIA.
