Page 2 part iii primary exempt purposeto promote and recognize the contributions of african americans within the legal profession and judiciary; advance the science of jurisprudence, uphold the honor and integrity of the legal profession, improve the admistration of justice, disseminate legal knowledge to all memberss of the community and particularly, to african americans, and to improve professional relations among members of the bar, the judiciary and the public. Geba role model committee: continued its mentoring program to educate, empower and assist underprivileged and disadvantaged students at franklin middle magnet school in tampa. The committee executed gebas mission of advancing the science of jurisprudence and disseminating legal knowledge to members of the community by exposing students to various facets of the legal profession. Activities included: workshops with attorneys and judges, touring law offices and legal organizations, and developing the students writing negotiation and oral skills through classroom debates. Geba desires that this exposure will substantiate the need for a minority pre-law program in hillsbourgh county, and to motivate students to seek the legal profession as a career choice. Gebas law school committee:the stetson committee sponsored the survival of the fittest program at the stetson law school in tampa. The program is an interveiwing seminar during which geba members review resumes, conduct mock interviews and discuss interviewing tips and pitfalls with students. There were a number of persons in attendance approximately 40. The committee spent approximately five hours per week for two weeks leading up to the actual program to prepare and organize. The program lasted four hours on the day of the event. Geba realized no cost associated with the event. No funds were raised or received from geba to support this event. Geba was able to sponsor this event by providing speakers and materials. Gebas scholarship committee goals are: a) increase the amount and number of scholarships awared to students at the high school level; b) to maintain and foster relationships with previous scholarship recipients; c) to explore partnerships with other organizations in efforts to increase the reach and amount of geba scholarships (e.g.,matching programs); d) to implement a centralized record keeping system of the scholarship recipients accessible by all geba members and those interested in contacting them for intership and or job offers. E) to continue to work with thw hillsbourough education foundation to increase awareness of the geba scholarships; and f) to reevaluate the essay topic for geba scholarship application. The selection process for the scholarships began in september with the review of the application and essay topic for the scholarship application. The application was made available to high school students in november. Applications were due by february 1 2012. The scholarship committee reviewed the applications, scored the essay submissions, and selected 14 applicants for final interviews. The committee is responsible for screening and selecting high school students for the scholarships. This year the committee awared one prepaid scholarship to one high school freshman and four $1,500 to four outstanding high school seniors. Gebas legal redress committee the specific goals of the legal redress committee is to increase the understanding of all people (specifically low and middle income regardless of race) of their legal rights and responsibilities. Additionally we aim to decrease the publics lack of familiarity with the judicial system. Finally seek to promote education among the youth in hillsbourgh county the percetion of lawyers in the community. To accomplish these goals geba hosted a free redress workshop for the community on areas of the law including criminal law, employment discrimination, property and forclosure, family law personal injury, pro se and small claims, and other relevent topi
