Form 990, Part IX

With expensive collections and facilities to maintain and expand, museums encounter significantly above-average administration costs as compared to other types of charities. Museums' median administrative expenses percentage is higher than the median amount of all rated charities. At 12.97%, the florida holocaust museum falls within best practices guidelines (0-17% of total expenses spent on administration/management) of similar organizations.

FORM 990, PART XI, LINE 9:

Change in beneficial interest in hhh 216,113. Intercompany transaction 10,000.

Financial Statement Notes

PART III, LINE 1A:

Collection items, which have been acquired through either purchase or contribution since the organization's inception, are not recognized as assets on the combined statements of financial position. Purchases of collection items are recorded as decreases in unrestricted net assets in the year the items are acquired or as a decrease in temporarily or permanently restricted net assets if the assets used to purchase the items are restricted by donors.

PART III, LINE 4:

Central to the mission of the museum is the program to collect, preserve and make available to the public the historical record and artistic and literary interpretation of the holocaust and other genocides. Types of media collected include: artwork created during the holocaust and after as a reaction, historical documents, photographs, audio and video testimony interviews, objects from victims, nazi and liberator militaria, textiles, judaica, diaries, manuscripts and other historical records of the holocaust and its era. The museum collects and maintains the material that supports its wide-ranging efforts in the areas of research, exhibition, publication, education and commemoration.

PART V, LINE 4:

The organization's endowment funds (endowments) are funds restricted or designated for operating costs incurred while engaged in programs directly related to cultural and presentation materials honoring the memory of those who suffered or died in the holocaust and to fund scholarships for students. The endowments consist of money market funds, corporate bonds, and asset backed securities. Income earned from the endowments is available for general or specific purposes. As required by accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america, net assets associated with endowment funds are classified and reported based on the existence or absence of donor-imposed restrictions.

PART X, LINE 2:

The museum is exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code (irc) and from state income taxes under similar provisions of the florida statutes and is classified as an educational institution under section 509(a)(1). Income earned in furtherance of the museum's tax-exempt purpose is exempt from federal and state income taxes. The museum is not a private foundation. Management evaluated the organization's tax positions and concluded that the organization had no material uncertainties in income taxes as of june 30, 2021 and 2020. The organization will account for interest and penalties related to uncertain tax positions, if any, as part of tax expense. The organization is no longer subject to income tax examinations by the u.s. Federal, state, or local authorities for fiscal years before 2018.

IRS990/Desc0AN AVERAGE OF 150,000 PEOPLE ARE REACHED ANNUALLY INSIDE THE MUSEUM AND THROUGH ITS EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH PROGRAMS. SINCE REOPENING TO IN-PERSON VISITORS FIVE DAYS A WEEK IN THE SPRING OF 2020, WE REACHED MORE IN PERSON VISITORS IN ADDITION TO ONLINE USERS. THROUGH ITS WORLD-CLASS EXHIBITIONS AND PROGRAMS, THE FLORIDA HOLOCAUST MUSEUM (THE FHM) SPREADS AWARENESS ABOUT THE HOLOCAUST, GENOCIDE AND HUMAN RIGHTS IN BOTH HISTORIC AND CROSS-CULTURAL CONTEXTS. USING PERSONAL STORIES, ACADEMIC LECTURES, HISTORY, ART AND PHOTO EXHIBITIONS AS WELL AS EXPLORATIONS OF CURRENT EVENTS, THE MUSEUM'S PRISMATIC APPROACH AIMS TO CREATE A BETTER FUTURE FOR ALL. (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O) (CONTINUED FROM PART III, 4.A.) MORE THAN 2,000 POLICE OFFICERS TRAINED IN LAW ENFORCEMENT & SOCIETY:AT A TIME WHEN COMMUNITY AND LAW ENFORCEMENT RELATIONS ARE FRAGILE, THE FHM HAS STEPPED UP TO OFFER THIS IMPORTANT INITIATIVE TO FLORIDA. THIS PROGRAM ENABLES LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS TO EXAMINE THE ROLE THEIR PROFESSION PLAYED IN THE HOLOCAUST AND CHALLENGES THEM TO REFLECT UPON THEIR PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES IN A DEMOCRACY TODAY. TRAININGS FOR BRADENTON, GAINESVILLE, MIAMI-DADE, ST PETERSBURG, AND TAMPA POLICE DEPTS, PASCO AND POLK COUNTY FIRE DEPTS, AND NATIONAL HOMELAND SECURITY HAVE TAKEN PLACE BETWEEN 2015 TO PRESENT.200 HOURS OF SURVIVOR TESTIMONY CAPTURED AND DIGITIZED:SINCE THE HOLOCAUST WAS A SERIES OF ATROCITIES INFLICTED BY PEOPLE ON PEOPLE AND A MATTER OF GREAT MORAL AND ETHICAL SIGNIFICANCE, IT IS CRUCIAL THAT THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE OF THE VICTIMS BE TOLD IN THE FIRST PERSON SO THAT IT MAY BE AT LEAST PARTLY UNDERSTOOD. THE MUSEUM'S COMMITMENT TO FILMING AND DIGITIZATION WILL KEEP THE STORIES OF HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS, LIBERATORS AND RESCUERS ALIVE FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS. 1 OF 3 ACCREDITED HOLOCAUST MUSEUMS IN THE UNITED STATES:THE FHM'S COMMITMENT TO PROFESSIONALISM, STANDARDS AND BEST PRACTICES ALLOWS IT TO HOST NUMEROUS NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITIONS, ATTRACTING TENS OF THOUSANDS OF VISITORS EVERY YEAR AND REINFORCING THE IMPORTANT ROLE THE MUSEUM AND FLORIDA HAVE AS INTERNATIONAL TOURIST DESTINATIONS. FIRST ACCREDITED IN 2003, THE MUSEUM ONCE AGAIN COMPLETED THE ARDUOUS PROCESS OF SCRUTINY BY THE AMERICAN ALLIANCE OF MUSEUMS AND RECEIVED REACCREDITATION IN 2018.ONCE IT REOPENED TO VISITORS DURING 2020-2021, AND ALONGSIDE ART AND HISTORY EXHIBITIONS CENTERING ON FLORIDA-BASED HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS, THE MUSEUM ALSO HELD THE TEMPORARY EXHIBITIONS OF ANNE FRANK: LET ME BE MYSELF AND JUSTICE, JUSTICE: YOU SHALL PURSUE: THE ART AND POLITICS OF ARTHUR SZYK. IN ADDITION, THE MUSEUM CREATED AN OUTDOOR EXHIBITION CALLED BEAUTIFUL QUESTIONS: THE ART OF SAMUEL BAK INSTALLED ON THE OUTSIDE OF ITS BUILDING. THE MUSEUM'S BEACHES, BENCHES, AND BOYCOTTS TRAVELING EXHIBITION WAS ON VIEW AT THE LARGO PUBLIC LIBRARY IN JUNE 2021. THE FHM HAD WORKED WITH 12,553 STUDENTS THROUGH TEACHING TRUNKS AND INNOVATIVE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS LIKE SPEAK UP SPEAK NOW! EXPOSING STUDENTS TO THE CONCEPTS OF UPSTANDER BEHAVIOR, THE RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF LIVING IN A DEMOCRACY, AND SPEAKING OUT AGAINST INJUSTICE. EVEN AFTER REOPENING IN JANUARY 2021, THE FHM CONTINUED TO OFFER ITS DIGITAL PLATFORM TO BETTER AID SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND STUDENTS AND FAMILIES ACROSS THE STATE. THE NUMBERS BELOW REFLECT UNIQUE URLS RATHER THAN UNIQUE PEOPLE WHO VISITED AND ENGAGED WITH THE FHM VIRTUALLY. MANY STUDENTS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC EXPLORED THE FHM RESOURCES WITH FAMILY MEMBERS SO, WHILE THE NUMBERS REPORTED BELOW ARE LIKELY ONLY A FRACTION OF THE ACTUAL NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS, THEY DO ILLUSTRATE THE IMPACT THE FHM HAD ON ITS VIRTUAL PLATFORM. FOR JULY 2020 THROUGH JUNE 2021: - 3,753 STUDENTS AND 95 TEACHERS PARTICIPATED IN "CONVERSATIONS WITH A SURVIVOR" VIRTUAL LESSONS - 3,634 VIEWS OF THE FHM VIRTUAL RESOURCES WEB PAGE - 492 VIRTUAL TOURS OF THE MUSEUM'S PERMANENT EXHIBITION- 11,360 OBSERVED THE YOM HASHOAH COMMEMORATION AS 113 NATIONAL, STATE AND LOCAL DIGNITARIES AND COM
