Additional Explanations

FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

To financially and materially support marion county public schools, its students and teachers. This is done by focusing community interest on public education; initiating support and underwriting projects and programs that benefit students, teachers, administrators, and marion county public schools.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4D

There are other programs such as business partners and educational project fund (scholarships, new teacher orientation, literacy). Business partners is a program that establishes relationships between public schools and the business community to enhance educational excellence. These partnerships are multi-year commitments in which businesses provide additional funding for campus-wide projects. 33 of the available 50 schools were partnered during the year.

Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Page 2, Part IV, Line 2B

Custodial account liability - the foundation receives funds from various organizations that are directed towards specific purposes (snack bags, after school program, hygiene items etc). The foundation works with the donating organization in providing suggestions on how the funds could be used to further the foundation's mission. The donating organization's approval is obtained before the funds are disbursed toward specific purposes.

Schedule D, Page 2, Part V, Line 4

The endowment fund at the community foundation was established as part of our planned giving platform. If any donor leaves the foundation a planned gift the funds would go into that endowment fund which has been established as the public education foundation of marion county legacy endowment fund. This fund would be used to support the programs and operations of the public education foundation of marion county.

Schedule D, Page 3, Part X

The foundation is exempt from income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. Accordingly, the financial statements do not reflect a provision for income taxes. The foundation files income tax returns in the u.s. Federal and state jurisdictions. With few exceptions, the corporation is no longer subject to u.s. Federal, state, and local, or non-u.s. Income tax examinations by tax authorities after three years from the due date of the tax return.
