“Thinkfirst thinkfirst is a national injury prevention foundation founded by america's neurosurgeons. Brooks collaborates with uf health at jacksonville medical center and others in the medical community to offer this brain and spinal cord injury program to public high school students in the region. Our therapists and nurses provide students with information on brain and spinal cord anatomy, mechanisms of injury and injury prevention behaviors and strategies. Personal stories and guidance are shared to help the teens make safe, responsible choices and decrease the likelihood of becoming a victim of a devastating accident resulting in a brain or spinal cord injury. Youth leadership jacksonville and jacksonville health and human services in 2013 brooks hosted students from the youth leadership jacksonville program - fifty of the community's best and brightest future leaders. Students were exposed to rehabilitation centered educational programs in both the inpatient and outpatient settings in addition to prevention messages from staff and former patients. Students were also provided information on how to relate to and understand the needs of a peer with a disability. This educational experience included invited speakers from the brooks' staff and administration, current and former patient testimonials, and therapy demonstrations. Falls prevention program brooks has developed a falls prevention program that provides educational resources for the community to decrease the incidence of falls in the older or frail population.
