The board of directors has the responsibility for reviewing the organization's form 990 (including all pertinent schedules) before it is filed with the internal revenue service. In conducting their review of the draft of the form 990, the board of directors shall conduct a top-level or big-picture type of review, however, if the board of directors desires or deems it necessary to conduct a more detailed review of the form 990, they contact the preparer of the form 990 to request copies of the relevant detailed tax return workpapers which they would like to see. Once the board of directors has completed its review of the form 990, and if requested, a meeting or conference call is scheduled with the preparer of the form 990 to discuss any questions, comments and suggested revisions identified by the board of directors. After approval, the form 990 is signed by the executive director and filed.

THE ADVOCATE EDUCATES PARTICIPANTS AS TO COURTROOM PROTOCOLS AND ASSISTS THEM WITH COMPLETING PAPERWORK (COUNTY CLERK PERMITTING). THE ADVOCATE ATTENDS THE INJUNCTION HEARING AND SUPPORTS THE PARTICIPANT THROUGH THE LEGAL PROCESS. OUTREACH ADVOCACY PROGRAMS ARE AVAILABLE TO VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND THEIR DEPENDENTS WHO ARE NOT REQUESTING RESIDENTIAL SHELTER SERVICES. PARTICIPANTS ARE OFFERED THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND BOTH GROUP AND INDIVIDUALIZED ADVOCACY, DEVELOP SAFETY AND ACTION PLANS WHICH ASSISTS THEM IN STAYING SAFE AND SETTING PERSONAL GOALS.
