Mission

The mission of the refuge house is to provide direct services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, and to their children and families, as well as to eliminate such violence through community education and public advocacy.

The refuge house's objective is to provide a reasonable and competitive executive director compensation opportunity consistent with market-based compensation practices for the executive director possessing the experience and skills needed to improve the overall performance of the nonprofit organization. The original letter of employment will provide all compensation and benefits for the executive director. The executive committee is responsible for reviewing the performance of the executive director and to recommend for approval to the board, salary and benefits for the executive director. The executive committee is charged with ensuring that the executive director compensation policy and procedures satisfy the irs intermediate sanctions requirements.

The organization has a committee that assumes responsibility for oversight of the audit and selection of an independent accountant. This process has not changed from the prior year.

Financial Statement Notes

PART V, LINE 4:

The organization has entered into an endowment agreement with the community foundation of north florida (the "foundation"). United way has made a donation on behalf of the organization to the endowment fund, which has been held and invested by the foundation. The organization may request that a portion of the funds held by the foundation be distributed to refuge house, inc., after certain criteria are met. The foundation board has the power to modify any restrictions or condition on the distribution of funds for any specified charitable purposes or to specified organizations. Because of the variance power held by the foundation, the endowment fund assets are not reported as assets of the organization.

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization has reviewed and evaluated the relevant technical merits of each of their tax positions in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america for accounting for uncertainty in income taxes, and determined that there were no uncertain tax positions that would have a material impact on the financial statements.
