Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 2

One of the elected Fire Lieutenants, is married to the Treasurer. Their duties and responsibilities are completely separate, as one is a Fire Officer, and the other is Corporate.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6

All Volunteer Firefighters and Support members are members of the department, and have voting rights as outlined and detailed in our By Laws

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7A

Members in good standing, are allowed to nominate and vote on Corporate and Fire Officers in elections held every two years, as per our By Laws

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7B

The Executive Board (elected officers) have limits as to the dollar value of non-budgeted transactions that they can approve. Expenses above the limits detailed in the By Laws must be approved by a vote of the general membership. Officers are also not allowed to enter into certain contracts, or encumber the fire department without the approval of the general membership.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

After completion of the 990 and associate forms, an electronic (pdf) copy of the documents is emailed to all Executive Board Members for review. Only after appropriate disposition of all comments or concerns, is the document approved for submital.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

In accordance with our Standard Operating Guidelines, any actual, possible or perceived conflicts of interest are documented and mitigated for any procurement, management or related activities.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

Electronic copies of our By Laws and Standard Operating Procedures are posted on our website, and are available on request. Our 990 forms are available on request, and are also available through the State of Florida as a part of our Corporate, and Charitable Organization filings.
