Mission statement: the gainesville fine arts association strives to value, foster and celebrate the visual art contributions of its members. We believe: 1) artistic achievements are cultivated by acknowledgment and celebration; 2) engaged participation is vital to a thriving, volunteer- driven organization; 3) membership in gfaa enhances the prosperity and personal growth of visual artists. Mentoring relationships benefit members and augment the organizations cohesivenes; 4) networking facilitates creative growth. The creative contributions of visual artists enrich the cultural life of the community; 5)persistent, lifelong training in the visual arts stimulates creative output and fosters collegiality; 6) art exhibitions nurture, inform and inspire artists and the community alike. “Gfaa gallery exhibitions: in 2019 the gfaa gallery hosted eleven judged exhibitions with receptions and awards. They each featured 30-40 artists exhibiting a total of 60-80 works per exhibit. Reception attendance is 130-200 people per event. Receptions are free and open to the public. Other exhibit opportunities within the gallery included a rotating "wall" exhibit, where artists can exhibit a small body of their work, and a boutique for small 3-d items, such as sculptures, ceramics and jewelry.”
“Community outreach exhibitions and activities: in 2019 gfaa also maintained ongoing exhibits in five outside public venues, including a major medical plaza, a library and 3 restaurants; and participated in three annual collaborative juried exhibits with outside partners (oak hammock, trinity methodist church, cofrin gallery.) we also hosted a series of lectures and concerts to bring a new, more diverse audience to the gallery. Every july we host a week-end long studio tour of the working studios of approximately 20 established artists.”
“Workshops and classes/networking and mentoring: in 2019 gfaa hosted two 2 -day workshops featuring nationally-recognized artist-instructors as well as four half-day mini-workshops in various disciplines and a 6 week calligraphy class. The educational component also included 2 critiques. We create networking opportunities between established and emerging artists through our weekly open studio program.”
