(law student membership terminates after admission to the florida bar; retired: individual who either is (1) "inactive or "retired" from the florida bar pursuant to rules regulating the florida bar 1-3.2 (c) or rule 1-3.5, and at the time of electing such status, was an active scba or judicial branch member; or (2) not a member of the florida bar, was a member of the bar of one or more foreign jurisdictions, has retired in good standing from the active practice of law in each of those foreign jurisdictions, and maintains his or her permanent legal residence within the 12th judicial circuit or charlotte county, florida.

The governance committee is charged with creating a slate of officers, but any active member may contest the nominee for a position by submitting a petition for a contested election signed by 40 active members.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc0LAW AND SARASOTA: A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT BETWEEN THE SCBA AND THE EDUCATION CHANNEL, "LAW AND SARASOTA" IS A SERIES OF 30 MINUTE TELEVISED PROGRAMS, AIRING AT LEAST TWENTY TIMES DURING A PERIOD OF NINE MONTHS ABOUT LEGAL TOPICS OF INTEREST TO THE CITIZENS OF SARASOTA; SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: IN 2007, THE SCBA CREATED A SCHOLARSHIP FUND IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF SARASOTA COUNTY TO PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS OF UP TO $5,000 TO QUALIFIED LAW STUDENTS. STUDENTS ARE SELECTED FROM FLORIDA LAW SCHOOLS BY THE SCBA. ELIGIBILITY IS BASED ON NEED, MERIT AND QUALIFYING CRITERIA. CANDIDATES INTERVIEW WITH AREA LAW FIRMS AND/OR GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES THAT HAVE AGREED TO EMPLOY THE STUDENT FOR 10 WEEK SUMMER INTERNSHIPS.
