Activity 2

One Book One New Orleans is a community building project for the Greater New Orleans, Louisiana area. During a five-week reading period this fall, beginning in late August, the YLC will encourage everyone age 16 and above in the Greater New Orleans area to share a common experience of reading the same book at the same time. The YLC hopes that people from different communities, different backgrounds, and different ages come together to celebrate one book and its impact on our city. Through this shared reading experience, we will be reminded of our city's unique literary contributions and of the strength of our community. Furthermore, we are striving to strengthen the reading community in New Orleans so that the literary world becomes yet another way in which we connect to one another across all lines.

Activity 3

RECreate is a youth recreation program that offers high quality, accessible, and educational recreation activities to youth in the Central City area. RECreate participants are ages 7-14. Programs include a basketball program consisting of coached practices, drills, games, and a tournament. A cultural awareness class is also offered where participants learn the history of the Central City ARea, Mardi Gras Indian tradition, African American history, African dance, and African American greek step.
