Mission and Program Overview

Mission

LightSys exists for the worship of God; for assisting in the fulfillment of Jesus Christ's great commission; and for the discipleship, mobilization, and encouragement of believers in Jesus. These purposes include, without limitation, the provision of IT consulting, IT training, software services, and missions mobilization, to missionaries and non-profit Christian missions organizations.

As a missionary religious order worshiping and serving together, we partner in Jesus' Great Commission via the provision of free-of-charge IT consulting, training, software development, and missions mobilization, for other non-profit international Christian mission organizations.

IRS990/Desc0Program: Software Research and Development for Missions. During 2020, we continued work on the Kardia missionary sending software system, with a goal to provide missions with free-of-charge, flexible, and secure data processing for missionary sending offices. Development focused on general ledger and CRM enhancements. We also continued support for Midwife-EMR, an EMR system for missionary maternity clinics in the developing world, with three total deployments. We also hosted our ninth annual Spring Break Code-a-Thon for Missions, in March 2020 with over 70 in attendance from eleven universities working on eleven projects. In all of these things, we believe very strongly in the need for the leading of the Spirit of God in order to see true fruitfulness when developing technology for world missions.

During 2020, we visited five organizations in person and provided significant remote/virtual assistance for thirteen organizations. Various degrees of remote assistance were provided to many more organizations as well. We also provided a significant amount of VPN and remote work setup assistance for organizations in the face of workers needing to work from home during the CoVID-19 pandemic. Our goal in all of these things is to help missionaries and mission organizations focus more effectively on the work of Christ's Great Commission, by providing them with the Spirit-led, quality, and free-of-charge technology consulting that they otherwise would not be able to obtain.

We provided support for seven GMMS users, assisted in the translation of Operation World resources into Russian and German, supported the Registry of Geographies for the Harvest Information System, and created over 130 maps and resources for five mission clients.

During 2020 we carried on discipleship and training activities in conjunction with our consulting work. We also emphasized discipleship and training in our one-year and summer internship programs, with eight interns and seven coding and project management volunteers participating during 2020. We were able to provide opportunities for service for several people whose secular internships had been canceled due to CoVID-19. We were not able to host the annual International Conference on Computing and Mission during 2020 due to CoVID-19, but we were able to facilitate prayer groups and discussions within the ICCM community.
