“The board reviews the 990 before filing it.”
“When new board members or staff join our organization they are asked to sign the policy. The director works directly with the program and accounting staff to monitor all potential violations.”
“The board of directors reviews the director's performance each year and their compensation. If there is money in the budget which can be appropriated for a salary raise then they would investigate like positions in the same or similar geographic areas. Since there was no room in the budget for a raise in 2018, none was made.”
“The director evaluates the employees each year including their workload and competency. If there is room in the budget for a raise then the director compares the job description to similar ones in the geographic area and works with the office manager to decide upon a raise.”
“Governing documents, conflict of interest policy and financial statements are available to the public during the tax year upon request. The inquiring party simply makes a request at the front office and the document will be copied and given to the requestor. Funders can also find us on guide star.”
“We created ccc quiet zones for student success- this was for students that did not have computers and they came to center for virtual classes. After-school went virtual after march 2020 due to pandemic. We postponed our adult technology class in spring and fall 2020. There was no seniors on the go-program in 2020. The esl (english as a second language) also went virtual.”
“Clarkston youth development program's goal is to assist educated students including recently arrived refugees and low income families with children who are from the area. We provide fifth graders, middle and high school students with programs during the school year and a wide range of subjects covered in their studies including reading, writing, science, technology, math art and social studies. Students learn how to write college application and we prepare them for the sat and act exams. We have tutors that help with homework, stem engagement activities and workforce development and positive image exercises. The youth development program consists of ccc quiet zones 2.0 after school program, ccc quiet zones and summer camp. Ccc quiet zones 2.0 after school program: our after-school middle and high school program was the result of an ongoing need to address many problems faced by young adults in their homes, schools, and social communities. By joining the after-school program, these students become confident around the issues they face on a daily basis like youth violence, cultural diversity, health inequities, and obstacles to educational attainment. This program is being sponsored by the dekalb county youth services and the clarkston community center and is open to middle and high school students. If you know someone who may benefit, please reach out to eric williams the youth coordinator at the clarkston community center for registration or any form of inquiry. Ccc quiet zones: a free service open to residents of dekalb county that is designed to provide quiet socially distanced space for students to participate in their virtual classes. Students will be encouraged to bring their district assigned technology (chromebooks, hotspot devices, ipads, etc.,) or if the student does not have access to technology, we will provide the student with a loaner laptop during their time in ccc quiet zones. Ccc quiet zones were created to provide working parents, children that academic assistance, as well as families without access to adequate technology the opportunity to participate in their virtual classes in a supervised, safe, and quiet environment. Participants will receive free breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks. Students are welcome to bring their own breakfast, lunch and snacks. Again, ccc quiet zones is a free service that is open to all children residents of dekalb county. Summer camp: summer steam plus camp teaches science, technology, engineering, art, writing and math in a seven week program which engage over 50 students. Most of our camp students were from georgia and from the poverty level and some were refugees. This program was modeled on behavior, academic performance, reducing household hunger, visual arts, math, science and english as well as a two week long cad(computer assisted design) unit. We also offered computer coding classes. The students ranged in age from 9 to 18.”
“Other programs include refugee, technology, and uhuru dancers. Refugee programs: we provide classes to assist people in acclimating to a new culture and language, as well as special events to update people on the current status of laws pertaining to refugees and immigrants. Technology: we believe that access to technology and the internet are truly crucial. By helping provide technology education and affordable internet access we can create opportunities for people in education, the job market, and communication that would otherwise simply not be possible. Uhuru dancers: uhuru currently offers a wide variety of workshops, community events, and performances throughout the year. The group is also dedicated to empowering elders through mzee uhuru, elders of freedom, and teaching the youth through watoto uhuru, children of freedom. Mzee is comprised of dancers over the age of 50, and watoto is comprised of boys and girls ages 3-17.”

“The organization is exempt from income tax under internal revenue code section 501(c) (3). Income from certain activities not directly related to the organization's tax-exempt purpose is subject to taxation as unrelated business income. For the year ended december 31, 2020, the organization did not have any unrelated business income, and accordingly, no provision for income taxes is necessary. The organization believes that it has appropriate support for any tax positions taken, and as such, does not have any uncertain tax positions that are material to these financial statements. The organization's exempt tax returns remain subject to examination by federal and state authorities typically for the last three years.”
