Activity 2

The center for the advancement of informal science education (caise): vsa is a subawardee to the association of science-technology centers on a contractual agreement with the national science foundation (nsf). The two other partner institutions are oregon state university and the university of pittsburgh center for learning in out-of-school environments. Caise assists the nsf in its efforts to advance the field of informal science education (ise) by leveraging nsf's investments in infrastructure and resources for nsf principal investigators, ise professionals, and stem researchers. In 2011, vsa's scope of work for caise included drafting the online pi's guide to evaluating ise projects and the ise evidence wiki. It also included a survey with informal science professionals regarding use of the nsf ise evaluation framework.

Activity 3

Scholarly journal: vsa publishes visitor studies, the leading peer reviewed journal for the field of visitor studies. In 2011, 363 printed pages were published in 2 volumes, featuring scholarly articles related to visitor research, evaluation, and other subjects relating to museums and informal learning environments. About 375 subscribers in north america, europe, and asia received the journal and it is available online at approximately 900 libraries.
