Gta presents the legislative interests of rural and urban public transit entities, provides a forum for the exchange of information, ideas, and experiences; works toward securing adequate and stable funds for public transit; and promotes a positive image for transit throughout georgia.

The georgia transit association is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving public transportation in the state of georgia.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6

Classes of membership. The association shall have the following classes of membership. A. Urban: a.1 large urban: composed of any public or private entity that provides or contracts for mass transportation service in an urban area in georgia with population of 200,000+ as defined by fta. A.2 small urban: composed of any public or private entity that provides or contracts for mass transportation service in an urban area in georgia with a population less than 200,000 as defined by fta. B. Specialized or rural: composed of any public or private entity that provides or contracts for 1) human services transportation or (2) provides service in a rural area. C. Business member: composed of persons, firms, corporations, etc., engaged in manufacturing of supplies, materials, and/or equipment or providing service to the public transportation field in the state of georgia. D. Governmental or associate: composed of governmental agencies, departments, planning organizations, bureaus, or commissions, universities or colleges or other entities having responsibility for planning or an interest in the development of public transportation within the state of georgia. E. Individual/student associate: composed of interested individuals not associated with any entity. F. Honorary member: an honorary member shall be defined as a person(s) who has performed notable and outstanding service in the interest of public transportation in georgia. G. Reciprocal association or other memberships: the board may from time to time authorize a reciprocal membership with any other organization, which in the board's view advances the interests of the association.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7A

The election of officers and board members will be held at the association's annual meeting. A majority of the votes cast for an office shall be necessary for an individual to be elected. In the event a single candidate fails to receive a majority on the first ballot, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes shall participate in a run-off election. In the event of a tie between two candidates, a candidate may request another vote by written ballot.

The bylaws may be amended by two-thirds (2/3) vote of the voting members present at a scheduled meeting. Any proposed amendment shall first be submitted to the board of directors; notice of amendments to be submitted to the board of directors at a meeting shall be provided at least thirty (30) days prior to the meeting.
