“Georgia middle school association strives for the continuous improvement and development of education for young adolescents in georgia by promoting a statewide shared vision of the philosophy and concepts of middle level education set forth in the 16 characteristics of "this we believe" (nmsa, 2010), and further defined by the four domains of the national forum schools to watch program (national forum, 2013).”

“Professional development- the georgia middle school association conducts one major conference annually. Tthe association held the 40th annual conference and exhibit in february 2018. There were approximately 300 members in attendance.”

“Member services - the association's objective is to assist all educators to deliver developmentally appropriate educational programs to young adolescents throughout the state. To accomplish this objective, the association maintains a website and provides other communications for its members, all middle-level educators, parents, policy makers, and other key stakeholders. This program identifies schools throughout the state that are academically excellent, developmentally responsive, socially equitable, and structured for success. The schools selected represent a wide range of student demographics and many diverse programs. They vary in size by student enrollment and in physical structure. All of the selected schools are characterized by their successful implementation of the national forum's criteria for school improvement and success, association of middle level education philosophical framework and the georgia standard of excellence. Once selected, a school must continue its ongoing quest for school improvement to maintain its designation as a georgia lighthouse school to watch.”
