The mission of gmsa shall be to strive for the continuous improvement of education for students of middle grades (ages 10-15) in the state of georgia by promoting statewide acceptance of the philosophy and concepts of middle level education as set forth in "this we believe" (nmsa, 1995).

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT- THE GEORGIA MIDDLE SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CONDUCTS ONE MAJOR CONFERENCE ANNUALLY. TTHE ASSOCIATION HELD THE 39TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE AND EXHIBIT IN FEBRUARY 2017. THERE WERE APPROXIMATELY 400 MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE.-$21,825
MEMBER SERVICES - THE ASSOCIATION'S OBJECTIVE IS TO ASSIST ALL EDUCATORS TO DELIVER DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS TO MIDDLE LEVEL STUDENTS THROUGHOUT THE STATE. TO ACCOMPLISH THIS OBJECTIVE, THE ASSOCIATION MAINTAINS A WEBSITE AND PROVIDES OTHER COMMUNICATIONS FOR ITS MEMBERS AND ALL EDUCATORS, SUCH AS, NEWSLETTERS, E-MAILS, AND FLYERS. THIS PROGRAM IDENTIFIES SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT THE STATE THAT ARE ACADEMICALLY EXCELLENT, DEVELOPMENTALLY RESPONSIVE, SOCIALLY EQUITABLE, AND STRUCTURED FOR SUCCESS. THE SCHOOLS SELECTED REPRESENT A WIDE RANGE OF STUDENT DEMOGRAPHICS, SCHOOL BUILDINGS WITH VARIED PHYSICAL STRUCTURES, DIFFERENT SIZES BASED ON STUDENT ENROLLMENT NUMBERS, AND MANY DIVERSE PROGRAMS. Professional development- the georgia middle school association conducts one major conference annually. Tthe association held the 39th annual conference and exhibit in february 2017. There were approximately 400 members in attendance.

Member services - the association's objective is to assist all educators to deliver developmentally appropriate educational programs to middle level students throughout the state. To accomplish this objective, the association maintains a website and provides other communications for its members and all educators, such as, newsletters, e-mails, and flyers. In addition, the association's members receive reduced rates at all organization sponsored conferences.

Georgia lighthouse school to watch program - the georgia schools to watch program is a state program that is part of the national forum to accelerate middle grades reform. This program identifies schools throughout the state that are academically excellent, developmentally responsive, socially equitable, and structured for success. The schools selected represent a wide range of student demographics, school buildings with varied physical structures, different sizes based on student enrollment numbers, and many diverse programs. All of the selected schools are characterized by their successful implementation of georgia standards and standards set by the national association, the association of middle level education. Once selected, these schools must their ongoing quest for school improvement, improvement of their organizational structures, and their dependence on locally disaggregated data as the impetus to drive instruction and best practices.

THE SCHOOLS SELECTED REPRESENT A WIDE RANGE OF STUDENT DEMOGRAPHICS, SCHOOL BUILDINGS WITH VARIED PHYSICAL STRUCTURES, DIFFERENT SIZES BASED ON STUDENT ENROLLMENT NUMBERS, AND MANY DIVERSE PROGRAMS. ALL OF THE SELECTED SCHOOLS ARE CHARACTERIZED BY THEIR SUCCESSFUL IMPLEMENTATION OF GEORGIA STANDARDS AND STANDARDS SET BY THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION, THE ASSOCIATION OF MIDDLE LEVEL EDUCATION.
