The association's mission is growing tennis to inspire healthier people and communities everywhere. The association promotes the development of tennis as a means of healthful recreation and physical fitness, as well as, establishes and maintains rules of fair play and high standards of sportsmanship.usta southern was founded in 1886 and is focused on the development and promotion of tennis within the nine states comprising the usta southern section alabama, arkansas, georgia, kentucky, louisiana, mississippi, north carolina, south carolina and tennessee. It is the largest of 17 sectional associations that make up the united states tennis association (usta), the national governing body of tennis in the united states.

The nine state association delegates elect the officers and board members for 2 year terms. Per the by-laws, changes to the by-laws and elections are subject to votes of the nine state associations, on behalf of their individual and organizational members.

For employees, the executive director makes recommendations through the human resources committee and budget process. Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

Under section 501(c)(4) of the internal revenue code, the association is exempt from taxes on income other than unrelated business income. There was no unrelated business income in the years ended december 31, 2024 and 2023. The association utilizes the accounting requirements associated with uncertainty in income taxes using the provisions of financial accounting standards board (fasb) asc 740, income taxes. Using that guidance, tax positions initially need to be recognized in the financial statements when it is more-likely-than-not the positions will be sustained upon examination by the tax authorities. It also provides guidance for derecognition, classification, interest and penalties, accounting in interim periods, disclosure and transition. As of december 31, 2024 and 2023, the association has no uncertain tax positions that qualify for recognition or disclosure in the financial statements.
