Mission and Program Overview

Mission

-increase charitable giving to those in need. -promote civic interest and community involvement through interactive culture.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Bolder giving, founded in 2007, challenges the norms and stereotypes that constrain charitable giving and works to inspire us all to:- give more: increasing our giving as a percentage of income, assets or business profits. - risk more: shifting how we give, including giving collaboratively, to communities with the greatest need, to social change as well as to charity, to entrepreneurial efforts, to smaller and emerging groups.- inspire more: sharing our giving stories to spark conversations about generosity.we approach this work through a focus on two key strategies - inspiration: we gather and share inspirational stories of bold giving from people across the economic spectrum, and action: we develop tools and advice to inspire actionable steps that help individuals transform their giving. We know that people can take leaps forward when given both role models and personal support. Stories of bold givers people giving at 20%, 50%, and even 90%+ of their income or assets have inspired others to increase their own giving 10-fold, 100-fold, and sometimes more. The focus of our work in fy13 has been broad ranging. Some of our key program highlights include:- adding 21 new stories to our library of amazing bold givers, including rod rodenberry, son of star wars creator gene rodenberry, whose foundation supports "exploring new frontiers for the benefit of humanity;" laurie lowe, a texas real estate broker who donates 25% of her commissions to charity; and russell roybal, who shares his story of learning about giving in a traditional catholic latino household and bringing that inspiration to organizing for lgbtq equality.- hosting 12 bold conversations which drew over 750 people on topics ranging from overcoming our philanthropic fears to exploring the dynamics of philanthropy in the black community.- launching the first give out day as part of our ongoing lgbtq equality initiative. This national day of giving for the lgbtq community mobilized over 5,000 people to donate over $600,000 to 400+ lgbtq groups from all 50 states, dc & puerto rico. Not only was give out day a success in overall fundraising, it raised significant new dollars, and it also engaged new donors for the lgbtq community.- organizing in-depth donor conversations about strategies to protect our environment as part of our ongoing environmental justice initiative. These included a candid conversation for major donors with bill mckibben and bill moyers about the fossil fuel divestment campaign and a daylong journey through the louisiana bayou exploring the environmental threats facing low-income communities.- launching our newest online resource, givingcommunities.org, to offer a single site for donors and their advisors to easily access information about the wide range of donor networks that exists across the country.
Activity 3
The presidents' pledge against global poverty is a national higher education leadership initiative to engage college and university presidents, chancellors, past presidents and presidents' emeriti in efforts to end extreme poverty. Participants pledge to give five percent or more of their annual income to organizations that mitigate severe poverty in the u.s. And around the world. Participants also lend their public leadership positions and voices to help galvanize the collective will and take the action required to end the most extreme forms of global poverty - a goal that is now within humanity's reach. As higher education leaders, pledge signers inform and inspire the next generation of global citizens - their students - about what can be done now to end extreme poverty in our lifetimes.fy13 highlightsin fy13, the project team continued outreach and recruitment with college and university presidents and engaged its network of conversation partners in strategies to advance the initiative. Fy13 highlights for the presidents' pledge against global poverty include:- convened its first annual meeting of pledge presidents in new york city at a gathering hosted by the henry luce foundation; - expanded its membership to 30 pledges;- formed a cabinet of pledge presidents chaired by lynn pasquerella, president of mount holyoke college, and established a series of quarterly conference call updates with members; - made presentations about the presidents' pledge at national higher education association meetings, including the american council on education meeting in washington, d.c.;- extended awareness through higher education media, including the article, "putting principles into practice," published in the newsletter of the association of catholic colleges and universities;- researched and shared with members and prospective members information on credible organizations that fight extreme poverty;- convened the project team for a strategic planning meeting;- updated its website (www.presidentspledge.org), brochure and fact sheets;- secured implementation grants from the henry luce foundation and the poverty and justice ministries of the elca (evangelical lutheran church in america).

INFORMATION RETURNS FILED FOR FISCAL YEARS PRIOR TO 2010 ARE NO LONGER SUBJECT TO EXAMINATION BY THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE AND THE COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS. IRS990ScheduleI/Form990ScheduleIPartIV/Explanation0SCHEDULE I, PART I, LINE 2: DURING FISCAL YEAR 2013, THE BOLDER GIVING PROJECT OF THE ZING FOUNDATION HELD ITS FIRST ANNUAL GIVE OUT DAY, AN INITIATIVE DESIGNED TO RAISE MUCH-NEEDED FUNDS FOR LGBTQ-SERVING ORGANIZATIONS ALL ACROSS THE UNITED STATES. MORE THAN 400 NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS SIGNED ON TO PARTICIPATE, AND IN THE LEAD-UP TO THE ONE-DAY FUNDRAISING EVENT, THESE NONPROFITS PUBLICIZED AND MARKETED THEIR OWN INITIATIVES IN ORDER TO RAISE AS MUCH FUNDING AS POSSIBLE FOR THEMSELVES -- WHILE ALSO RAISING AWARENESS OF LGBTQ ISSUES ACROSS THE NATION. THE ENTIRE GIVE OUT DAY WAS MONITORED, TRACKED, AND PUBLICIZED ON A WEB-BASED PLATFORM DESIGNED AND OPERATED BY RAZOO, INC. ZING FOUNDATION ITSELF RAISED DONATIONS IN ORDER TO AWARD GRANTS TO THE NONPROFITS THAT RAISED THE MOST FUNDS FOR THEMSELVES ACCORDING TO DIFFERENT CATEGORIES, I.E., MOST FUNDS RAISED BY LOCAL LGBTQ-SERVING ORGANIZATION, OR MOST FUNDS RAISED BY NATIONAL LGBTQ ORGANIZATION. THE AMOUNT RAISED BY ZING DETERMINED THE NUMBER AND SIZES OF GRANTS AWARDED. THE GIVE OUT DAY WEB PLATFORM ALLOWED ZING, THE 400 PARTICIPATING NONPROFITS, DONORS, AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO TRACK THROUGHOUT THE DAY WHICH ORGANIZATIONS WERE RAISING THE MOST DONATIONS PER CATEGORY. AT THE OFFICIAL END OF GIVE OUT DAY, THE NONPROFITS THAT RAISED THE MOST FUNDING WERE AWARDED GRANTS TO REWARD THEIR FUNDRAISING EFFORTS AND TO INCREASE THEIR OWN FUNDRAISING TOTALS. THE GRANTS ZING AWARDED WERE UNRESTRICTED DONATIONS. ZING MAINTAINS RECORDS TO SUBSTANTIATE THE NUMBER AND AMOUNTS OF GRANTS AWARDED.
