The project first engaged community leaders and stakeholders to hear their perspectives on the topic and issues affecting young girls and ensure the community was ready to support these efforts. The team then invited parents and guardians to trainings to share the program and hear from them what they see the issues are and get their support for beginning dialogue around the topic with their children and others. The team also trained 15 local Peer Educators to assist in the trainings.”

IRS990/Desc0Kenya - Student Sponsorship Program: The Student Sponsorship Program supports disadvantaged and bright students who lack financial ability to access education. Over the last 11 years, Pangea has educated 45 students in primary, high school and university or college. In addition, through annual retreats, the boys and girls interact with staff, peers and professionals from different fields who guide and motivate them on life skills and careers. Students who graduate from high school are also able to attend the Daystar University Leadership program which builds skills for success in college and in the workplace. The goal of the program is to educate and graduate young, responsible and competent adults who will positively influence their communities. In 2021, the program supported 23 students through their year of education and saw 2 graduate from their college studies.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0Kenya - Kenyan Women's Network: The Kenyan Women's Network program focuses on the social and economic empowerment of women living in extreme poverty. Pangea works with groups of women known as cooperatives and provides training in leadership, human rights, basic business skills and bookkeeping, personal development, nutrition, hygiene and reproductive health. The majority of the members are small scale traders and farmers engaged in different businesses. In 2021, Pangea was able to train 128 women in life and business skills throughout the year and provided business mentorship for 368 women already in the network, along with revolving funds for small business growth. Pangea served a total of 496 women through these efforts.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0U.S. - Young Women's Leadership Challenge (YWLC): YWLC's goal is to empower high school aged young women from diverse backgrounds to be confident, financially literate, globally aware and prepared leaders to achieve their dreams and be changemakers in their communities and beyond. The program provides an opportunity for young women to gain the tools necessary to get them successfully to and through college and into the workplace. This is a year-long program that starts with a summer intensive conference and followed by monthly meetings. During 2021, the program was delivered virtually again due to the enduring unknowns with the pandemic. The curriculum, speakers, and overall essence of the program was maintained, it was simply adapted to a virtual environment. The program had 42 participants participating from January - April and a new cohort of 24 starting in June.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc0TUDAI - Pangea's Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health program was implemented in 2021. Pangea introduced adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH) education to 375 adolescent girls living in 3 counties in western Kenya. The project first engaged community leaders and stakeholders to hear their perspectives on the topic and issues affecting young girls and ensure the community was ready to support these efforts. The team then invited parents and guardians to trainings to share the program and hear from them what they see the issues are and get their support for beginning dialogue around the topic with their children and others. The team also trained 15 local Peer Educators to assist in the trainings.
