History of jackson cupboard in 2000, several people working with the boy scouts of america, were concerned with the food collected by the bsa every fall. It was decided to start a food bank in which the foods could be distributed in a better way. After several months talking to church, civic and community leaders, a few concerned individuals started the process of making this happen. St. John's episcopal church allowed the jackson cupboard to use room in their basement. Two scouts chose to do eagle projects where they built walls and doors for the room, and shelves for the food. Jackson cupboard opened its doors to the public in march 2001. In 2004 the organization applied for and received non-profit status. This enabled people in need to come to the cupboard on wednesday from 10:00am to noon, and monday or thursday, between the hours of 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to pick up non-perishable food items. The cupboard wanted to get the word out about the services that were available to those in need as well as to those people in the community who wished to donate to its cause. Although it has taken several years to accomplish this, we are now a well established service in the community.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt3HISTORY OF JACKSON CUPBOARD IN 2000, SEVERAL PEOPLE WORKING WITH THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA, WERE CONCERNED WITH THE FOOD COLLECTED BY THE BSA EVERY FALL. IT WAS DECIDED TO START A FOOD BANK IN WHICH THE FOODS COULD BE DISTRIBUTED IN A BETTER WAY. AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS TALKING TO CHURCH, CIVIC AND COMMUNITY LEADERS, A FEW CONCERNED INDIVIDUALS STARTED THE PROCESS OF MAKING THIS HAPPEN. ST. JOHN'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH ALLOWED THE JACKSON CUPBOARD TO USE ROOM IN THEIR BASEMENT. TWO SCOUTS CHOSE TO DO EAGLE PROJECTS WHERE THEY BUILT WALLS AND DOORS FOR THE ROOM, AND SHELVES FOR THE FOOD. JACKSON CUPBOARD OPENED ITS DOORS TO THE PUBLIC IN MARCH 2001. IN 2004 THE ORGANIZATION APPLIED FOR AND RECEIVED NON-PROFIT STATUS. THIS ENABLED PEOPLE IN NEED TO COME TO THE CUPBOARD ON WEDNESDAY FROM 10:00AM TO NOON, AND MONDAY OR THURSDAY, BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 4:00 PM AND 6:00 PM TO PICK UP NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS. THE CUPBOARD WANTED TO GET THE WORD OUT ABOUT THE SERVICES THAT WERE AVAILABLE TO THOSE IN NEED AS WELL AS TO THOSE PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY WHO WISHED TO DONATE TO ITS CAUSE. ALTHOUGH IT HAS TAKEN SEVERAL YEARS TO ACCOMPLISH THIS, WE ARE NOW A WELL ESTABLISHED SERVICE IN THE COMMUNITY.
