Tryon palace foundation, inc. (the "charity") is a supporting organization and is operated exclusively for the benefit of, to perform the functions of, and to carry out the purpose of tryon palace. Tryon palace is owned and operated by the state of north carolina and includes the historic sites and its associated activities. Tryon palace, the restored site of royal governor william tryon, was originally built in 1770 and destroyed by fire in 1798. The palace and grounds were restored by the state of north carolina using state funds as well as funds from a private trust created under the will of maude moore latham. Tryon palace reopened in 1959.tryon palace is open to the general public tuesday through sunday. Special historical, educational, and cultural events are also held at tryon palace throughout the year. The foundation conducts fundraising activities and accepts grants and contributions.
To support the activities and purpose of tryon palace, a historic site owned and operated by the state of north carolina and located in new bern, north carolina.

THE PALACE AND GROUNDS WERE RESTORED BY THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA USING STATE FUNDS AS WELL AS FUNDS FROM A PRIVATE TRUST CREATED UNDER THE WILL OF MAUDE MOORE LATHAM. TRYON PALACE REOPENED IN 1959.TRYON PALACE IS OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC DAILY AND SPECIAL HISTORICAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND CULTURAL EVENTS ARE HELD THERE AS WELL. THE ORGANIZATION CONDUCTS FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES AND ACCEPTS GRANTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS. |

THIS CHARGE CAN BE FOUND IN THEIR BYLAWS, ARTICLE III, SECTION 3.1. FURTHER, THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF TRYON PALACE FOUNDATION CONTAINS MEMBER REPRESENTATIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL AND CULTURAL RESOURCES AND THE TRYON PALACE COMMISSION. AS FOUND IN SECTION 3.2 OF THE BYLAWS: "THE NUMBER OF DIRECTORS CONSTITUTING THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS SHALL BE NOT LESS THAN FIFTEEN (15) AND NOT MORE THAN THIRTY-THREE (33). INCLUDED IN THIS NUMBER SHALL BE THREE (3) EX-OFFICIO MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS WHO SHALL BE AS FOLLOWS: 1) THE CHAIRMAN OF THE TRYON PALACE COMMISSION OR HIS OR HER DESIGNEE, (2) THE DIRECTOR OF TRYON PALACE OR HIS OR HER DESIGNEE, AND (3) THE HEAD OF THE OFFICE OF ARCHIVES AND HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL AND CULTURAL RESOURCES OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA OR SUCH PERSON'S DESIGNEE." ADDITIONALLY, THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF TRYON PALACE FOUNDATION ALSO FEATURES MANY MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION, PARTICULARLY ON THE FINANCE COMMITTEE. THE PRESIDENT OF THE TRYON PALACE FOUNDATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS ALSO SERVES ON AN ADVISORY COMMITTEE COMPRISED OF LEADERSHIP OF THE TRYON PALACE COMMISSION, TRYON PALACE FOUNDATION, AND THE SECRETARY AND DEPUTY SECRETARY OF THE NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL AND CULTURAL RESOURCES. |
